Job Description

 

Times Opinion is looking for an enterprising project manager to work directly with the Opinion Editor managing her priorities for design, creative direction and enterprise work. In partnership with the Opinion Editor and Creative Director, you will help drive momentum and collaboration for some of Opinion’s most ambitious projects and the daily requests for branding, design and art direction that touches all our work.

You will have demonstrated ability to organize creative or editorial projects from end-to-end, manage timetables, identify blockers and provide visibility to multiple stakeholders across the company. An understanding of how creative teams, art directors and digital design professionals work in newsrooms is important, as is editorial judgment. 

This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage integrated editorial projects from start to finish, serving as the primary contact between all parties involved to ensure deliverables and components are on track and within scope.

  • Develop relationships with Opinion’s design team, senior leaders and other partners.

  • Track and communicate project status, risks and emergent issues that are accessible and current, ensuring shared understanding of project goals and success criteria across all stakeholders.

  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including updated project plans, file management and presentations.

  • Be in regular communication with the Opinion Editor on project goals, status and progress to ensure her priorities are forefront in project management.

  • Promote a free flow of information with and among partners and team members on all matters.

  • Assist in building out new systems and practices as they are needed.

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

  • You will report to the Opinion Editor. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience collaborating across teams on ambitious projects

  • 1+ years of experience in media or a newsroom 

  • 1+ years of experience in CMS production and technical troubleshooting

  • Experience working in a deadline driven environment 

  • Proficient in project management tools or collaborative tools that are useful for editorial project management, such as Airtable and others. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Editorial judgment 

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Experience building presentations 

The annual base pay range for this role is between $110,000.00 and $125,000.00.
