Job Description:

Your New Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of major, complex projects within Hitachi Rail. This is a strategic leadership role, responsible for driving performance across project teams and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility between home and office working. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake regular travel to customer sites in Sheffield and Manchester, along with occasional visits to other Hitachi Rail locations as required to support project delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Working closely with senior stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide leadership, governance, and direction across multiple high-value projects.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Taking overall responsibility for project delivery performance, ensuring successful outcomes against time, cost, and quality objectives.

  • Providing leadership and direction to multidisciplinary project leadership teams.

  • Ensuring projects are delivered in line with governance and control processes.

  • Managing project risks, opportunities, change control, resource planning, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Supporting commercial performance across project portfolios, including revenue, cash flow, and EBIT targets.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal business functions.

  • Providing coaching and development support to less experienced Project Managers.

  • Presenting clear and concise project performance information to senior business leaders.

About You

Essential

  • Extensive experience delivering complex, high-value projects.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills with experience leading multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.

  • Strong commercial, financial, and business acumen.

  • Experience in project governance, planning, scheduling, risk management, and change control.

  • Ability to analyse project performance and investigate cost variances.

  • Experience working across engineering, finance, commercial, supply chain, and operational functions.

  • Ability to coach and develop project management talent.

Desirable

  • Experience within the rail industry or another technical engineering environment.

  • Knowledge of transportation solutions, including train control, communications, and safety systems.

  • IPMA Level C or B qualification, or equivalent professional accreditation.
