We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager II to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives that support operational strategy, business transformation, and execution excellence for Optum Medical Care NY/NJ. This role will be responsible for driving large-scale projects from initiation through implementation, ensuring work is delivered on time, within scope, and aligned to business objectives.
The Senior Project Manager I/II will serve as a strategic partner to senior leaders, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams by creating clarity, managing dependencies, identifying risks, resolving barriers, and ensuring transparent communication throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong business acumen, disciplined project management practices, and the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable plans for a variety of audiences.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead large, complex projects that support key business objectives and operational priorities
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, timelines, milestones, deliverables, and business plans to achieve defined outcomes
  • Partner with senior clinical and operational leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify scope, objectives, roles, responsibilities, and expected results
  • Identify, analyze, and manage project risks, issues, assumptions, actions, and dependencies to ensure effective execution
  • Drive project governance, including status reporting, escalation management, decision tracking, and stakeholder communications
  • Facilitate collaboration across business teams, clinical/operational leaders, support functions, and other internal partners as needed
  • Proactively identify emerging customer, business, and operational needs and develop innovative solutions to address them
  • Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Influence senior leaders and stakeholders to adopt new ideas, approaches, processes, or tools that improve execution and outcomes
  • Ensure project work supports operational, market-level, and/or functional strategies and priorities
  • Promote continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, improving project management practices, and supporting repeatable execution models

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Business or Healthcare-related program
  • 7+ years of experience in the areas of operations, project management, healthcare and/or IT
  • 5+ years of experience in project management
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex, cross-functional projects or business initiatives
  • Proven ability to manage end-to-end project execution, including planning, stakeholder alignment, delivery management, risk mitigation, and communications
  • Solid ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable plans and executive-level updates
  • Experience and comfort working with senior leaders and influencing stakeholders across multiple functions
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate emerging needs, identify barriers, and drive resolution across teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree
  • Project management SME with certification such as PMP or change management certification such as Prosci
  • Experience in healthcare operations, ambulatory operations, clinical transformation, workforce optimization, or provider practice management
  • Experience supporting PMO, operational excellence, transformation, or strategic planning functions
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement or structured delivery methodologies
  • Experience developing executive-ready project materials, dashboards, implementation plans, and stakeholder communications
  • Solid problem-solving, decision-making, organization, and communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
