Who are we looking for?

To support GHD’s growth in the Energy business across Canada, GHD is making investments to increase our footprint. Our Canadian business is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join their Energy team! In this role, you will lead and expand our energy delivery team and liaise with key clients across Canada, with a focus on the Central region (Ontario). You’ll shape strategic plans, identify client needs, and deliver cutting-edge solutions in areas like transmission, distribution, substations, hydropower, wind, solar, biofuels, hydrogen and renewable natural gas, and emerging technologies. You’ll support not only delivery but also business development. The role can be based in any of our offices in Waterloo, Mississauga, Toronto, Whitby or Markham.

Role Purpose

This role combines senior-level project delivery leadership with strategic client relationship management for priority energy and utility clients. It is designed for an experienced utility professional who can lead complex, multidisciplinary projects while also acting as a trusted client interface.

The role is delivery-led, with accountability for major projects forming the core of the position, complemented by relationship management responsibilities that help strengthen client partnerships, identify future opportunities, and support sustainable growth.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

Project Management & Delivery (≈80%)

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary energy and utility projects, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives are achieved
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, environmental, and advisory services
  • Maintain accountability for project governance, risk management, change control, and client reporting
  • Ensure consistent application of GHD’s health, safety, quality, and project management systems
  • Provide senior delivery oversight and coordinate subject matter experts as required to achieve successful project outcomes
  • Mentor and support project managers and technical staff, contributing to capability development and delivery excellence
  • Support proposals and pursuits from a delivery, constructability, and execution perspective

Relationship Management & Business Development (≈20%)

  • Act as a trusted relationship lead for assigned energy clients or programs, working closely with sector and regional leadership
  • Serve as a client advocate internally, ensuring client priorities, constraints, and decision-making realities are understood across delivery teams
  • Support client engagement planning, including regular check-ins, lessons learned, and forward-looking discussions
  • Identify organic growth opportunities arising from project delivery, including follow-on phases, extensions, and new programs
  • Contribute to pursuit strategies and proposals where delivery credibility and utility experience are key differentiators
  • Collaborate across regions and disciplines to deliver a One GHD approach to client solutions

What you will bring to the team: 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical), or related technical field of study
  • Professional licensure or eligibility preferred (P.Eng.)
  • 10-15 years of experience in the energy sector including business development, project management, and technical leadership for major infrastructure, ideally within or for utilities
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary, design integration and complex project delivery, including strong progress measurement and earned value management (EVM) experience 
  • Strong background in project governance, cost control, scheduling, and risk management
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with executive, operational, and technical client stakeholders
  • Ability to engage and influence various stakeholders, including clients, partners, regulators, and internal teams
  • Experience with regulated utilities (generation, transmission & distribution, substations, hydro, or asset programs) is a strong asset
  • Comfortable operating in a hybrid role spanning delivery leadership and client-facing responsibilities.
  • Experience with Design Bid Build (DBB), Design Build (DB), and alternative delivery projects such as Progressive DB, Integrated Project Delivery/Alliance and/or P3 considered an asset

  • The salary range for this position is $129,350 - $175,350.  The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations.
