Senior Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineering is a is a senior-level position in Wight & Company’s MEP Engineering group. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled lead engineer with 12+ years of experience to act as responsible charge for various projects within our portfolio. The position will work closely with engineering principals and other team members to deliver high-quality projects that meet client goals and adhere to the firm’s standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in HVAC engineering principles, a passion for technical design, critical thinking skills and a keen interest in integrated design and delivery processes. This position requires understanding of all project phases including schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction contract administration.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform and/or guide staff engineers in mechanical engineering analysis, design, selection and calculations for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for private and public sector building applications.
  • Ensure conformance of design with applicable building codes and project sustainability goals.
  • Responsible for creating overall design philosophy, documentation and adherence to high quality technical content for projects.
  • Guide internal and external clients through feasibility, conceptual, and early planning of projects through final design, construction and post-occupancy.
  • Evaluate system selection based on analysis of multiple design options and constraints.
  • Clearly and concisely convey technical solutions and performance objectives while ensuring complete project alignment with client goals, project design, sustainability objectives, schedule, budget, constructability and post-occupancy performance.
  • Oversee the preparation of design documentation including BIM models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including architecture, engineering, sustainability, construction, and other consultants, to support the integrated delivery of projects.
  • Conduct research on systems, products, building codes, and sustainable design practices to inform project decisions.
  • Oversee construction phase and post-occupancy activities including submittal review, construction site observations and commissioning conclusion.
  • Forecast, allocate, and adjust project resources; ensuring team members are appropriately assigned and utilized. Communicate effectively and assign priorities and tasks within the team. Monitor utilization to optimize efficiency, quality and profitability.
  • Participate in cross-discipline career development. Engage in continuous learning opportunities, attend industry events, and participate in internal training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from ABET accredited mechanical engineering program. Master of Science (MS) degree from ABET accredited mechanical engineering program a plus.
  • Experience: 12+ years of full-time mechanical (HVAC) engineering experience in an engineering firm, with a leadership role in the analysis, design, and documentation for various project typologies and systems.
  • Knowledge: IBC, IMC, IECC, ASME & ASHRAE Building Codes and Standards.
  • Licensing and Certification: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required. LEED or other sustainable building certification a plus.
  • Skills: Critical thinking, analytical problem-solving skills, technical expertise, attention to detail, adaptability, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Passion: A genuine interest in integrated design and delivery, with a commitment to growth and development of the firm.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
