Ameresco currently has an opening for a Senior Project Engineer with an electrical background to join our Federal Solutions Group working to develop and implement energy efficiency and distributed energy projects. This position can be a hybrid position at our Phoenix, AZ office, or a remote position in the Western US with occasional travel required.
Responsibilities:

Lead and support project development efforts for energy efficiency, distributed energy resources (DER), and microgrid projects by visiting customer sites to gather relevant project information and data, conducting engineering analysis, developing project scopes, and preparing preliminary cost estimates.

Prepare engineering design drawings, specifications, and bid documents in accordance with project requirements and lead or support the subcontractor bid process. Conduct pre-bid site walkthroughs, respond to bidder questions, evaluate bids, and make final selection of subcontractors in coordination with appropriate Ameresco staff.

Lead and support the procurement process for major electrical equipment by developing scopes of supply, issuing requests for proposal from vendors, responding to vendor questions, and evaluating proposals.

Provide oversight and technical review for third-party engineer-of-record’s (EOR) drawings and specifications related to microgrid architecture and control, solar PV, energy storage, and other DERs to ensure that designs meet customer objectives and guaranteed performance. Lead the identification, evaluation, and selection of such third-party EOR.

Ensure that project designs and implementation achieve guaranteed energy and performance metrics, meet customer requirements, and comply with industry standards, practices, specifications, and codes. Provide engineering support during construction by responding to subcontractor questions and visiting construction sites to confirm implementation in accordance with design intent and specifications. Review and approve submittals for electrical and controls equipment such as generation equipment, battery energy storage systems, transformers, switchgear, switches, and relays.

Support the commissioning, start-up, and testing of electrical systems and equipment. Develop commissioning and performance verification plans, witness and sign-off on field execution of such plans by subcontractors, and review system performance data via SCADA and Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) to verify and troubleshoot system performance.

Prepare utility interconnection applications and manage the interconnection process including review of application data, system studies, and interconnection agreement language.

Prepare written content for technical proposals and reports.

Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and customers.

Travel as required.

Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university.

Minimum 5 years of prior experience in electrical system analysis and design engineering.

Ability to review confidential US security information.
Additional Qualifications:
-
Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.

Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles and system analysis of solar PV, battery energy storage systems, power systems, engine generators, motors, and data monitoring/reporting systems.

Valid driver’s license issued by state of residence and in good standing.

Experience working directly with one or more of the following technologies: solar PV, energy storage, smart grid, electric distribution, protection and controls systems, backup generators, cogeneration.

Experience with interconnection of generating facilities, including the application process, operating conditions, and metering requirements.

Experience working on energy savings performance contracts (ESPC) or utility energy service contracts (UESC).

Experience using electrical power system analysis software such as ETAP or PSCAD.

Experience using solar PV modeling software such as PVsyst or Helioscope.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentation skills.
