Senior Project Engineer


Job Description:

Senior Project Engineer positions offered by ABB Inc. (Houston, Texas). Work closely with customers to shape and deliver solutions and utilize feedback to drive delivery of improvements for medium-to-large complex projects. Resolve technical issues both remotely and at customer sites in US and abroad. Assist Project Managers with claims, customer specifications and safety standards, as well as technical details, costs, and deliverables for sales proposals. Cost-effectively execute Distributed Control System project deliverables on time in accordance with specifications, standards, and safety requirements. Design, test and commission automation enclosures, control logic and human machine interfaces with ABB or 3rd party control system. Create and deliver work plans, budgets, and risk assessments. Develop, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures and tools, reporting inefficiencies and identifying improvement opportunities.


Minimum Requirements:


• Requires a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 10 years of experience in working as an Engineer with Distributed Control Systems (DCS)

• Must have 6 years of experience in each of the following:


o Working with Power Management Systems (PMS) following IEC61850 standards including integration with switch gears and Motor Control Centers (MCC)

o Working with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Fire and Gas Systems (FGS) following Functional Safety industrial standards of IEC61508 and IEC61511

o Performing computer networking design and configuration, including server virtualization and virtual networks (VLANs)

o Working with Cyber Security, including following IEC62443 standards

o Leading projects, including coordinating between vendors, customers, and project managers

o Working with the following industry standard protocols: Modbus, OPC, Profibus, Profinet, and Ethernet IP

o Performing control logic programming based on P&ID, control narratives, and cause and effect diagrams

o Designing control system hardware panels

o Working with alarm management systems and historian applications

o Testing and commissioning Distributed Control Systems, including performing various tests including factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing

o Working with oil, gas, and chemical industry processes

o Performing simulation and sequence configurations


• Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally 25%.

• Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently.
