Senior Project Engineer (IT) Onsite
Basra, Iraq (6/1)
The Senior Project Engineer (IT) will be responsible for managing and delivering IT and telecom/automation-related scopes within EPCM oil & gas projects in Iraq. This includes overseeing project lifecycle execution (FEED to commissioning), ensuring integration of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital systems with engineering and construction activities.
The role works closely with multidisciplinary teams, EPC contractors, and field personnel to ensure safe, compliant, and timely delivery of IT systems supporting project operations.
2. Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Coordination
- Support delivery of projects across Concept, FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement, and Construction phases
- Coordinate IT/telecom scope execution aligned with overall EPCM project schedule
- Prepare and implement project execution plans, schedules, and resource planning
- Monitor project progress, track milestones, and ensure adherence to cost and schedule
IT & Digital Systems Engineering
- Manage design and implementation of:
- IT infrastructure (networks, servers, virtualization, cybersecurity)
- Telecom and field communication systems (fiber optics, SCADA interfaces)
- Integration with control systems (DCS, PLC, industrial networks)
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, cybersecurity policies, and client specifications
Stakeholder & Interface Management
- Interface with:
- Engineering disciplines (Instrumentation, Electrical, Automation)
- EPC contractors and vendors
- Client IT and operational teams
- Coordinate internal/external stakeholders to ensure alignment on scope, execution, and deliverables
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Participate in:
- Preparation of technical specifications and RFP packages
- Vendor evaluation and technical bid analysis
- Monitor supplier performance, expediting, and delivery of IT systems
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide field engineering support during:
- Installation of IT/telecom systems
- Testing, commissioning, and start-up
- Oversee integration of IT systems with plant operations (ICS, SCADA, control networks)
Project Controls & Reporting
- Track:
- Cost, schedule, and deliverables
- Risks, issues, and mitigation plans
- Prepare weekly/monthly reports for management and stakeholders
HSE & Compliance
- Ensure all IT project activities comply with:
- HSE standards and site regulations
- Iraq-specific operational and security requirements
- Promote safety-first culture across all activities
3. Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Information Technology / Computer Engineering / Telecommunications Or relevant engineering discipline
Experience
- Typically 15+ years in IT/engineering roles within EPC/EPCM oil & gas projects
- Strong experience in:
- IT infrastructure & industrial networks
- Oil & gas project lifecycle (FEED → EPC → commissioning)
- Prior Iraq or similar high-risk site experience preferred
- Arabic speaker preferred.
Technical Competencies
- Industrial IT systems (SCADA, DCS, PLC integration)
- Cybersecurity for industrial control systems
- Fiber optics, telecom systems, and networking protocols
- Project controls (schedule, cost, risk management)
