Job Description

As a Senior Project Engineer, Control Firmware, you develop, maintain, and test embedded software features related to motor controls. You will be responsible for design, implementation, and testing of code plus involvement in requirement specifications and reviews. The coding is model-based and implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and you will test the code at several stages, from bench simulation to implementation on actual variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motors. You will report to the Firmware Development Team Lead and will work Hybrid in Mequon, Wisconsin, US.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design motor control models in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Develop features for synchronous, induction and permanent magnet motors
  • Interface model-based code to other embedded software modules using C/C++
  • Simulate and test the model locally and on drives/motors
  • Optimize code for performance, memory requirement and simplicity
  • Validate code for reliability and safety
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Participate in requirement specifications
  • Lead investigation of anomalies and new features
  • Work in an agile/scrum environment with a team of other control firmware engineers
  • Knowledge of motor control algorithms, including algorithms for induction, synchronous and permanent magnet motors
  • Knowledge of multiple power converters (3 phase VSI, CSI, NPC, Multi-level, and Matrix converters)
  • Knowledge of converter control schemes, converter modulation strategies and drive systems modeling
  • Experience with model-based development in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Knowledge of C/C++
  • Lead the investigation of anomalies and the exploration of new features and control algorithms.
  • Communicate technical complex information in verbal and written form
  • Organize activities of other employees.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • 12+ years of related experience.
  • Master of Science in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Twelve years of experience in embedded software development with an emphasis on model-based design and real-time systems
  • Experience with the development of motor drives or power converters and their associated control systems
  • Experience working in a SAFe Environment

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience

  • Lead investigations of anomalies, explore new features, and organize activities of other employees
  • 12+ years related experience (preferred)
  • Master of Science in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience with SAFe environment (preferred)
