About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

As a Project Engineer on the Capital Projects Team, you will drive the execution of capital projects from inception through commissioning at the Moses Lake Facility. You will bridge the gap between design engineering and field execution, overseeing the technical integrity of all site construction scopes and ensuring the seamless integration of new process units into our existing facility operations. You are a hands-on engineer who thrives in a dynamic field environment, possesses strong cross-functional leadership skills, and is committed to maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Lead Small Capital Projects: Manage the full lifecycle (scope, budget, schedule, execution, and commissioning) of small site-specific capital projects.
  • Site Integration: Oversee the technical integration of new process units, utility tie-ins, and equipment packages into the existing facility infrastructure without disrupting ongoing operations.
  • Field Technical Authority: Act as the project’s primary on-site technical point of contact for construction crews, mechanical/civil/electrical contractors, and vendor representatives.
  • Design Verification: Review engineering deliverables (P&IDs, structural layouts, piping isometrics, etc.) considering constructability and site compatibility.
  • QA/QC & Compliance: Partner with safety and quality teams to oversee field inspections, pressure testing, structural sign-offs, and compliance with local building codes and environmental permits.
  • RFI & Submittal Management: Rapidly resolve technical Requests for Information (RFIs) and review vendor submittals to keep construction timelines on schedule.
  • Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as the critical link between the Design Engineering team, site Operations, Maintenance, and external General Contractors.
  • Commissioning & Handover: Lead pre-commissioning walkdowns, punch-list resolution, and the ultimate technical handover of new assets to the site Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Change Management: Facilitate the Management of Change (MOC) process for all assigned projects, ensuring safety, operational, and design reviews are fully completed.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience: 3 to 6+ years of engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, refining, or heavy industrial construction environment.
  • Location: Must be permanently based at, or willing to relocate to, Moses Lake, WA (this is a 100% on-site, facility-based role).
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of industrial construction of piping, structural steel, mechanical equipment installation, and utility systems (chilled water, compressed gases, HVAC, etc.).
  • Project Tools: Experience tracking project schedules (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and managing project budgets.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting the integration of low/medium voltage electrical systems and automation controls (PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation tie-ins) with mechanical equipment packages.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AISC, IBC, OSHA).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external mechanical, electrical, and civil contractors effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills under tight field execution timelines.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a hard hat, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Enter spaces narrower than 3 feet
  • Climb stairs or over containment walls
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
