Job Description

Due to an upcoming award in the Energy & Natural Resources division, the Energy & Natural Resources team are recruiting a Senior Project Controls Engineer to join a diverse and supportive team during a period of significant growth. Our conventional energy client is embarking on major field development, and we are keen to speak to individuals with combined planning and cost experience to see what Turner & Townsend can offer you. Candidates will be required to be present in our client’s office in Aberdeen for 3 days per week.

Main Purpose of Role

As a Senior Project Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, monitoring and controlling project costs, schedule, risks and performance for a major conventional energy operator as they embark on some critical field development projects.  You will understand and manage relationships between time, cost, risk, change, reporting and scope, with accountability for creating and maintaining robust schedules and cost reports that provide our client with accurate data to drive management decisions. You will play a key role in ensuring that client objectives are met and that projects are delivered to time and cost targets and the appropriate quality standards.

Key Accountabilities

As a Senior Project Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for providing project controls services as required by our clients, which may include:

  • Creation, development and maintenance of project schedules that assist and align with project and client requirements
  • Preparation, development and maintenance of project cost budgets and forecasts
  • Monitor, record and control all cost commitments, accruals, expenditure and approved changes
  • Establish, maintain and administer Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), associated coding structures and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS)
  • Assisting with the development of project status reports to keep management informed on project progress and costs
  • Support the ongoing deployment of the master change management process
  • Involvement with client team in the implementation of Integrated Project Controls standards and processes.
  • Reducing uncertainty, improving efficiency and understanding project objectives.
  • Interacting with the project team to define scope of work to develop and update detailed schedules, cost data and identification of variances.
  • Evaluation of project schedule progress and performance and identify slippage against baselines
  • Analysis of float, critical path and constraints to understand the effect of approved changes or slippages to schedule, recommending alternative courses of action for recovery.
  • Support the effective integration of cost and schedule information to ensure coherent project control and decision-making
  • Maintenance and update of standard project risk registers
  • Undertaking project progress reviews.
  • Monitoring and consolidation of contractor project schedules into Integrated master Schedule (IMS)
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly project controls reports as requested by the client

Qualifications

You have professional Project Controls experience specialising in Planning & Scheduling in one or more sectors across the whole Project lifecycle. You have strong knowledge and proficiency with Primavera P6 (or MSP) and other planning and resourcing software and can coordinate and work with other teams utilising your multi-disciplinary knowledge.

You will be a strong communicator, able to demonstrate leadership behaviours with the ability to influence, manage, motivate, coach and develop a team by fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. You promote empowerment and contribution and have a passion to build a community and support network beyond your delivery role.

You also;

  • Are a member of a relevant professional body e.g., Association for Project Management, Project Management Institute (not mandatory)
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have the ability to make risk-based decisions where the parameters are unclear, and judgement is needed.
  • Have strong leadership skills with the ability to mobilise, inspire and lead by example.
  • Have strong stakeholder management experience.
  • Can navigate through conflict situations and defuse tension.

Skills Required

  • Professional project controls experience specialising in planning and scheduling across the whole project lifecycle
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency with Primavera P6 (or Microsoft Project) and other planning and resourcing software
  • Experience preparing and maintaining project cost budgets, forecasts, commitments, accruals and change controls
  • Ability to establish and administer WBS, coding structures and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS)
  • Experience integrating and consolidating contractor schedules into an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, including ability to mobilise, inspire, coach and lead teams
  • Ability to make risk-based judgments where parameters are unclear and navigate/defuse conflict situations
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
  • Ability to be present in client office in Aberdeen for three days per week
