A Day in the Life

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Position Summary:

Medtronic is seeking a highly experienced Senior Strategic Planning Program Director to guide and manage our enterprise strategic planning processes. This role is crucial for aligning Medtronic’s long-term strategic objectives with operational execution, ensuring program success, and fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess advanced management skills, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a proven track record in prior strategic planning and program management roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans that drive the company’s vision and long-term goals. Collaborate with senior leadership to align strategic objectives with business operations.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats in healthcare technologies. Use data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making and guide the company's long-term direction.
  • Program Management: Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives and programs, ensuring they meet organizational goals, timelines, and budgets. Monitor progress and make independent decisions as necessary to ensure program success.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including cross-functional teams and vendors. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Performance Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of strategic initiatives. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the successful implementation of strategic plans.
  • Team Leadership: Lead peers and teams to success through influence and indirect authority.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field, with 15 years of experience (10+ in management). An advanced degree is highly preferred with 13 years of experience (10+ in management).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data and trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex programs and initiatives.
  • Experience in strategic technology roles and the ability to use financial models for initiative assessment.

Nice to Have:

  • Background and experience in developing and leading Corporate Strategy at a global strategy consulting firm or within a large, publicly traded company.
  • Experience in driving Top-Down Strategic Planning processes and leading major capital allocation initiatives.
  • Expertise in portfolio prioritization to help formulate the company's long-term vision and strategic priorities.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$219,200.00 - $328,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
