Overview of Position


The Senior Production Engineer is responsible for supporting the manufacturing processes required to manufacture navigation solution products which include the integration of complex electronics, optical and mechanical hardware.

Manufacturing processes consider supporting topics including training, supply chain, validation and verification, ownership of product and process change management and scaling production capacity to meet ongoing business requirements.

This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders such as project managers, purchasing, production engineers, R&D, scheduler and Production Manager working under the guidance of the Head of Production Engineering. This role is well-suited for a technically-minded and seasoned manufacturing engineering professional with a high attention to detail and high capability to fault find and diagnose problems using structured problem solving techniques. 


What you'll do

Support diagnostics and data review in order to perform root cause analysis associated with first pass yield, leading to initiatives to improve the product via build process or supporting design related improvements.

Manage production line related training, work instructions and test utilities to ensure products and their respective sub assemblies are built correctly and consistently.

Support the production team by providing technical expertise to minimise production stoppages and meet targets. (Through daily updates and more formal engagement such as larger training sessions or workshops)

Design, implement and verify production jigs and equipment for suitability prior to use in production.

Accountable for the implementation and training of new products into production.

Utilising previous experience to assess new products for manufacturability and recommend design changes, production processes, suppliers and equipment to R&D for scaled manufacture.

Liaison with suppliers and form collaborative relationships that are mutually beneficial, in order to ensure quality issues are managed, with cost and lead time are maintained.

Drive continuous improvement and manage change in the production team (by identifying systemic production issues, troubleshooting and advising the production team on technical process improvements together with R&D.

Review the line capacity and implement changes required to meet increased demand as per regular forecast reviews within the production and supply chain team.


Qualifications, skills & experience

Bachelor of Engineering, i.e. Mechatronics, Aerospace, Production, Electronics Engineering or Computer Systems and 4+ years experience in a similar position, in a similar industry involving the assembly of devices which include electronics, and fine assembly technique.

Experience in Fiber optics within a similar field would be highly regarded.

Experience in managing quality issues associated with suppliers is well regarded.

Experienced in the assembly of products requiring ESD controls & clean room environments.

Ability to competently manage and operate test equipment associated with bench/utilities testing of sub assemblies and finished goods testing via state of the art end of line test equipment.

Capable of upskilling quickly to develop deep technical capabilities in a challenging technical domain;

Experience measuring and reporting on production metrics;

Basic knowledge of software (Java, C, C++),  electronics and mechanical design processes;

Well developed, structured problem solving, fault finding and debugging skills;

Strong attention to detail with an ability to provide accurate technical documentation;

Be highly motivated with an energetic, responsive and decisive disposition;

Strong knowledge of WHS practices;

Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering or Computer Systems
  • 4+ years experience in a similar position, in a similar industry
  • Established professional relationships with suppliers relevant to Advanced Navigation
  • Experienced in the assembly & fabrication of cutting edge electronic technology products
  • Experience in operating equipment and the ability to learn how to operate equipment from suppliers
  • Experience measuring and reporting on production metrics
  • Basic knowledge of software (Java, C, C++), electronics and mechanical design processes
  • Strong knowledge of WHS practices
