Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Job Summary:

Disney's Watch team is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer who is excited to build apps enjoyed by millions around the world. You will be building scalable, elegant solutions for all of Disney's Android applications that stream video across a wide array of devices including phones, tablets, and TVs. Our highly collaborative group works in tandem with many cross-functional teams. We value strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as a drive to deliver results. We are deeply invested in maintaining high code quality standards with unit tests, automated tests, modern libraries, and a Kotlin codebase. We're building new and innovative video experiences for millions of viewers—and we're looking for engineers who can help us shape what's next.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Build video experiences for both Android and Android TV using Kotlin and Android SDK.
  • Understand the internals of Android and how to debug and diagnose device issues.
  • Collaborate with application, service, design, and product teams to build a great user experience for Disney+ viewers.
  • Create and update documentation across the entire software development lifecycle as needed
  • Maintain a high level of code quality with each feature delivery by including unit and integration tests
  • Perform regular code reviews to ensure quality, continuous improvements and promote knowledge sharing
  • Build telemetry to help measure and monitor the success of each feature.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training or work experience
  • Build video experiences for Android mobile and Android TV using Kotlin and the Android SDK
  • Understand Android internals and how to diagnose device-specific issues
  • Collaborate with application, service, design, and product teams to build a great user experience for Disney+ viewers
  • Create and maintain documentation across the software development lifecycle
  • Deliver features with a high level of code quality, including unit and integration tests
  • Perform code reviews to ensure quality, drive continuous improvement, and promote knowledge sharing
  • Build telemetry to measure and monitor the success of each feature

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Android TV / Amazon Fire TV development
  • Experience with streaming video, codecs, and DRM
  • Experience maintaining a large, modularized codebase
  • Experience using performance profiling tools such as Android Profiler
The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $148,700.00 to $199,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
