Block is a platform and marketplace transforming the home renovation experience - for homeowners and contractors alike.
The Role
About Us

Block is an AI platform transforming the $500+ billion renovation industry. Our mission is to enable millions of homeowners to create spaces they love and thousands of contractors to build thriving businesses. We are the nation’s largest and most trusted place to plan and hire for major renovation projects, powered by proprietary AI experiences, personalized guidance, and a vetted contractor network.

Overview

Block is looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the marketplace experience—the surfaces where homeowners and contractors come together to plan, communicate, transact, and deliver renovations.

You'll be building AI-powered product experiences. Block's platform increasingly uses AI to help homeowners visualize their spaces, get estimates, and find the right contractor. You'll bring curiosity and judgment to that work—pushing the boundaries of what's possible for both sides of the marketplace.

At Block, product managers validate ideas by building. You'll use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and v0 to prototype new experiences, test hypotheses about supply and demand dynamics, and ship working demos to stakeholders. AI tools are a real part of how we work here, not a nice-to-have. They're what lets a small team move at the speed this work demands.

Together with engineering and design, you'll drive strategy and execution across the marketplace—owning the outcomes, the roadmap, and the quality bar for everything downstream of our onboarding experience.

This position reports to the SVP of Product & Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Own the product strategy and end-to-end delivery of Block's marketplace experience — our agentic dashboard surface, homeowner-contractor matching, payments and billing, messaging, and the contractor-facing product
  • Drive both sides of the marketplace: you'll think about homeowner needs and contractor needs as two use cases of one shared project, ensuring the experience works as a unified whole
  • Validate ideas by building. Use AI tools (like Claude Code, Cursor, or v0) to prototype marketplace flows and test hypotheses
  • Ship your own product updates. Feel comfortable making changes to the product, making changes in the codebase, and pushing PRs
  • Write clear, well-structured PRDs that engineering and design can build from—and iterate on them quickly, using AI-assisted workflows where they help
  • Scope and stage large initiatives into well-defined milestones with clear rollout plans, success criteria, and next steps
  • Make informed tradeoffs around scope, technical debt, and product quality—accepting product debt thoughtfully when it speeds up delivering value to users
  • Partner closely with the SVP of Product, engineering, and design to shape the roadmap, align on priorities, and coordinate execution across teams
  • Run a continuous cycle of discovery, delivery, and measurement—shipping fast, learning from real usage data, and feeding insights back into what you build next
  • Champion the customer in every product decision—grounding your work in data, user research, and direct observation of how homeowners and contractors actually use the product
  • Mentor other members of the product team and participate in hiring to help grow PM talent at Block
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of product management experience, with meaningful time spent owning product strategy and shipping large initiatives end-to-end
  • Experience with two-sided marketplaces, platforms, or products where supply and demand dynamics shape the product strategy
  • Familiarity with AI-powered product development—you understand what AI can and can't do well, how to evaluate model outputs systematically, and how to design products that use AI thoughtfully
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools (like Claude Code, Cursor, or v0) in your PM workflow—for creating PRDs, prototyping ideas, analyzing data, or some combination. We want PMs who build, not just define
  • Strong product instincts and the ability to make well-reasoned tradeoffs between scope, effort, user value, and business impact
  • Comfort with data—you use analytics to inform decisions, define success criteria, and measure outcomes. You're not dependent on a data team to answer your own questions
  • Excellent written communication. Your PRDs surface the right questions, your roadmap docs tell a clear story, and your stakeholder updates are concise and useful
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach to working with engineering, design, data, and operations
Nice to have:
  • Familiarity with home renovation, real estate, or construction
  • Experience at a startup or growth-stage company where you wore multiple hats and operated with high autonomy
  • Comfort with SQL, Python, or other tools for independent data exploration
  • Familiarity with our current stack (Next.js, TypeScript, React, Feathers, Node.js)
How We'll Evaluate You

Our interview process includes a live exercise where you'll use AI tools to tackle a product problem—whether that's drafting a spec, analyzing a dataset, or prototyping a flow. We want to see how you think, how you use these tools, and how you make product decisions in real time.

  • Earn equity in an early-stage high-growth company
  • Subsidized health insurance, dental, and vision coverage
  • Flexible work environment, with a hybrid schedule and "work from anywhere" time
  • PTO and company holidays
  • 12 weeks universal fully paid family leave
  • 401k retirement savings plan with matching employer contribution

  • Working alongside an ambitious, kind, no-drama team

What We Do

Block was founded by Koda and Luke in 2017 on a simple premise: homeowners and contractors need a better way to build together. Looking at the $450 billion renovation industry, our co-founders saw how technology could dramatically change the way renovations are done from planning, through design and build. Since then, we’ve completed over a thousand different projects, raised a significant Series C, built a network of best-in-class contractors, and developed a suite of digital tools to support every step of the renovation journey. A few things have remained the same since the very beginning: our commitment to connecting homeowners and contractors, our love of good design, and the importance of a culture of collaboration, tenacity, and creativity.

Why Work With Us

At the end of the day, it’s our team of ambitious, thoughtful, inventive problem solvers that has gotten us to where we are— and it’s our team that’ll get us to where we’re going. We're a tight-knit, collaborative group that works without silos or egos to invent the future of our industry.
