Schedule: Flexible Monday through Friday. Candidates may be in-person or hybrid.

 

Location: Candidates based in Baltimore, MD or willing to relocate to Baltimore, MD are strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to commute to the office at least once a month. Occasional travel to conferences/clients may also be required.

 

What will you do?

You will be a cross-functional leader responsible for Vectech’s remote sensing, consumer information/telehealth, and exploratory research products, overseeing product lifecycle from research to commercialization. You will collaborate with research, technical, sales, and customer success teams to deliver innovative solutions for vector surveillance and public health challenges. Your focus will be on driving product success by understanding customer needs, translating them into actionable roadmaps, and ensuring alignment with Vectech’s strategic goals. This position also requires the ability to guide interdisciplinary teams, prioritize resources, and lead through complex technical and operational challenges.

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

Product Strategy and Roadmap:

  • Build, oversee, and manage roadmaps that translate Vectech’s research in remote sensing, consumer information/telehealth, and advanced laboratory analysis of vectors from the lab to commercially available products that align with Vectech’s business strategy.
  • Define and prioritize product requirements based on customer feedback and in collaboration with technical leads to maximize value proposition.
  • Facilitate alignment between product roadmaps and grant deliverables.
  • Work with grant teams to align target grants with core competencies and product strategy / roadmap.
  • Help establish governance structures and processes for product decisions (e.g., phase gates).
  • Develop metrics to ensure alignment between product execution and strategic goals.
  • Contribute to company-wide strategic planning processes.

Collecting, Analyzing, and Communicating Customer and Market Insights:

  • Establish relationships with existing and potential customers to gather feedback on product performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, competitive dynamics, and customer pain points for refinement of product offerings.
  • Occasional travel to conferences is required to build customer relationships and present product progress. 
  • Design and implement systemic processes and customer feedback loops to collect and analyze feedback and satisfaction throughout the product development cycles.

Guiding Technical Team Development:

  • Collaborate with R&D teams (entomology, computer vision, software, and hardware) to integrate technical advancements such as AI-guided species identification, pathogen detection, and parity status grading into actionable product features.
  • Ensure compatibility of hardware and software with end-user workflows and field environments.

Execution and Delivery:

  • Create development timelines, monitor progress using project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, Nifty, Github, etc), and ensure timely delivery of features.
  • Validate product functionality through user testing, field trials, and stakeholder feedback, iterating to maximize value and usability.
  • Develop and implement resource allocation frameworks across assigned products and projects.
  • Create and enforce standardized project management methodologies to foster transparent initiative status and improve delivery predictability.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead cross-functional teams, balancing resources across engineering, customer success, and sales to achieve product milestones.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth of a robust product management function.

Commercialization and Impact:

  • Develop go-to-market strategies for innovative vector information systems, including pilot programs and pricing models for scalable adoption.
  • Define and track KPIs/OKRs to measure the success of product launches and iterate based on quantitative results.

Risk Management: 

  • Develop risk assessment frameworks and mitigation strategies across the product portfolio.
  • Monitor and report on risk factors affecting product delivery.

 

Desired Experience and Demonstrated Successes

  • At least 5 years of product management related experience in engineering, life sciences, or information technology. 
  • At least 3 years of experience as a manager working with technical teams, and aligning engineering and research efforts towards common commercialization goals. 
  • Technical experience or training with AI/ML, data science, biological sciences hardware-software-integrated, UI/UX design, or imaging-based technologies. 
  • Interest in public health, environmental health, and entomological sciences. 
  • Experience managing products through research and development to commercialization preferably with measurable business or customer impact.
  • Experience translating customer insights, technical feasibility, value propositions, and market opportunities into product requirement decisions and building actionable roadmaps that align with business objectives.
  • Experience defining and tracking KPIs or OKRs to measure product success and using data to guide decision-making.
  • Experience with grant applications and grant-based product development

Top candidates will be invited to a short phone screening, an interview with our technical, product, and leadership teams, and asked to prepare a case-study presentation on one of Vectech’s products. Candidates may also be asked to provide professional references.

Compensation

Base salary: $106,000 - $147,000
