MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build anywhere—on the edge, on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 developers joining MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

MongoDB is seeking an exceptional Senior Product Manager to drive the strategy and execution for our Core Database’s networking layer and observability infrastructure. You will play a crucial role in shaping MongoDB's networking layer and observability capabilities, establishing MongoDB as a leading distributed database with robust communication and monitoring features.

In this role, you will be responsible for defining the product vision, roadmap, and execution plan for the Core Database Networking & Observability team. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, designers, and other stakeholders to drive innovation and deliver best-in-class solutions. Our team focuses on creating and enhancing components that facilitate communication between distributed processes while ensuring efficient resource utilization and low-overhead observability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy and roadmap for the Core Database Networking & Observability (SNO) team
  • Define the vision for high-performance, reliable inter-node communication, and robust observability features
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and cross-functional teams to drive innovation and deliver best-in-class solutions
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends and opportunities in distributed database networking and observability
  • Ensure user-friendly and intuitive observability tooling for support, database administrators, and developers
  • Champion the adoption of best practices in low-overhead monitoring and observability
  • Develop compelling messaging to highlight the unique value proposition of our approach
  • Deeply understand distributed systems architecture, networking protocols, and observability concepts for data communication.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility, performance, scalability, and resilience in network communication and observability.
  • Contribute to performance testing, architectural explorations, and integrating new observability tools like OpenTelemetry.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in product management or related technical role, focusing on distributed systems, networking, or observability
  • Familiarity with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, TLS, gRPC, and general knowledge of standard networking protocols, and an understanding of how they contribute to distributed system communication.
  • Familiarity with observability tools and frameworks, such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or similar, and an understanding of how they support monitoring and troubleshooting in distributed systems.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive complex technical projects
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Passion for high-performance, reliable distributed systems and observability best practices
  • Strong technical acumen - our Product Managers must be as technical as their engineering counterparts and have depth of knowledge.
