Job Description:

At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry.  Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.

As a designer at Cloudera, your main focus is to let your curiosity drive you. You will use your passion and knowledge to create precision-crafted designs that bring simplicity and innovation to our products and services.

We are seeking an experienced and talented Senior Product Designer to deliver enterprise-ready improvements and contribute to cross-cutting product design initiatives for Cloudera products and services. This role is key to unraveling complexity and delivering impactful solutions for customer problems that move business metrics.

In this role you will be collaborating with Product Management and Engineering on cross-cutting product initiatives. You will contribute to the full user-centered design process, from user interviews, competitor analysis, concept design, high-fidelity interfaces, prototypes, and validation. You will also work closely with engineering to uphold the quality of implementation.

Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the entire design team to improve our process, our design system, and our design culture. The culture of the Cloudera Design team is human-first; we actively seek to grow each member’s career through outside education and candid, compassionate feedback from other experienced designers.

As a Senior Product Designer you will:

  • Deliver Impactful Solutions: Design user flows, diagrams, wireframes, and high-fidelity visual designs to satisfy product requirements. You will explore a broad range of solutions and narrow down to the best one using strong rationale to solve customer problems.

  • Contribute to Strategy: Actively contribute to your team's roadmap and strategy. You will frame your work to relate back to the long-term goals of the product and consistent business outcomes.

  • Execute End-to-End Design: Contribute to the full design process by creating detailed prototypes to test micro-interactions and flows. You will deliver design specifications and supporting assets to development teams, ensuring consistency and attention to detail.

  • Collaborate & Iterate: Participate in design reviews to collect feedback from designers and stakeholders. You will be hungry for feedback, appreciating and considering it with an open mind to improve the health of your product team.

  • Participate in Research: Pair with researchers, analysts, or PMs to conduct product research and usability studies. You will talk to customers regularly to understand their underlying motivations and validate your designs.

  • Influence Implementation: Work closely with engineering to uphold the quality of implementation. You will evaluate your work by what is shipped, not just what is in the design file, making smart trade-offs that balance quality and speed.

  • Support System Design: Contribute to and maintain design pattern libraries. You will reflect our design principles in your work, choosing patterns based on strong rationale and designing holistic flows rather than individual screens.

  • Deepen Domain Knowledge: Dive deep into domain research, understanding the customers, the technology, and the competition to make informed design decisions.

  • Drive Measurable Business Outcomes: Work with Product Management to define and track metrics for key design initiatives (e.g., adoption, efficiency, retention).

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field, and 4-6 years of related experience; OR Master’s degree and 3-5 years of related experience.

  • A portfolio that exhibits the ability to conceptualize and demonstrate visual communication skills. Examples of process and design approaches are highly recommended.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to enterprise software, PAAS, and SAAS applications.

  • Proficiency across most design competencies, including mastery of design principles with a firm understanding of grid systems, typography, and color.

  • Self-starter attitude with excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects with shifting priorities.

  • Strong collaborator experienced in working with cross-functional, international teams.

  • Proficiency in Figma, Zeplin, Miro, and associated prototyping tools.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

  • Experience working with the concepts of data lifecycle management.

You may also have:

  • Experience in coordinating and conducting usability studies.

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and front-end JavaScript frameworks.

  • Proficiency in conducting qualitative and quantitative research.

  • Experience designing for data streaming, data catalog, data engineering, data warehousing, machine learning, and AI applications.

What you can expect from us:

  • Generous PTO Policy

  • Support work life balance with Unplugged Days

  • Flexible WFH Policy

  • Mental & Physical Wellness programs

  • Phone and Internet Reimbursement program

  • Access to Continued Career Development

  • Comprehensive Benefits and Competitive Packages

  • Paid Volunteer Time

  • Employee Resource Groups
