Job Description

About Us

At Vector Technology Solutions (VTS), we’re on a mission to revolutionise how energy data is managed, accessed, and used, both in Aotearoa and around the world.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Vector and working in close partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), we’re building global, cloud-native data platforms that unlock the power of energy information. Our goal is to enable smarter decisions, accelerate innovation, and create a more sustainable future.

We work at the intersection of energy, data, and digital transformation and we’re just getting started.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Designer to join our growing design team and help shape the future of our cloud-native energy platform, Diverge. This role is embedded within a cross-functional product team, working closely with engineers, product owners, and tech leads to deliver intuitive, user-first experiences.

You’ll be hands-on with UX and UI design, supporting product delivery while also contributing to go-to-market collateral and the evolution of our design system. You’ll be the user voice in the room, balancing design fundamentals with practical delivery in a technically complex, engineering-led environment.

Success in this role means leading design across product features and initiatives, building strong relationships with users and stakeholders, and elevating the quality of UI and brand-aligned design assets. You’ll also contribute to strategic product decisions and support the growth of the design practice by mentoring junior designers.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, is confident in their design decisions, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity while helping to shape how design operates at VTS.

In a Typical Week You Can Expect To:

  • Contribute to UX and UI design within a product team, embedded alongside engineers and product leads
  • Build strong working relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Champion design thinking and help grow design maturity by clearly communicating design decisions and their value
  • Support onboarding and improve user experience across the platform
  • Evolve the Diverge design system and contribute to branding and communication assets
  • Design for modularity and customisation across diverse customer groups
  • Translate technical complexity into intuitive, user-first design solutions
  • Support the platform’s expansion into new domains with varying user needs

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years of product/UX design experience, ideally in B2B or enterprise environments
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design process and problem-solving
  • Expertise in Figma and visual design fundamentals (form, shape, colour, layout)
  • Experience in Agile product delivery and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to conduct and synthesise user research (or willingness to learn)
  • Confident communicator who can advocate for design and influence stakeholders
  • Passion for UI and visual storytelling, with a strategic mindset
  • Experience in branding and supporting sales collateral is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud-native platforms or the energy sector is beneficial

Why Join VTS?

  • Career Growth: Work closely with our Principal Product Designer and grow your career through formal and informal development opportunities
  • Meaningful Work: Tackle complex, real-world challenges that drive innovation
  • Flexibility: Hybrid work options and flexible hours
  • Wellbeing Support: Access to health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Inclusive Culture: Living Wage, Accessibility Tick, and Rainbow Tick accredited

What We Do

We are New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas, owning and operating networks which span the Auckland region. But we don’t stop here - our reach extends to Australia and the Pacific Islands, shaping a new energy future for our customers, through innovative digital and engineering solutions, metering services, solar energy solutions, electric vehicle (EV) networks, high speed internet fibre, air and water purification to name a few.

We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands. As governments, businesses and consumers urgently take action to decarbonise, at Vector we are clear on our vision – creating a new energy future.

Because we live in a world that is changing fast, we must continue to identify and develop better options that will provide value, choice and service for our customers throughout New Zealand and beyond, so the environment and communities we love continue to thrive. To do this, Vector has a vision of creating a new energy future, which will help to deliver clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions for customers.
