Job Description:
Alation is the leading data platform for enterprise companies, empowering their workforce to find, understand, and trust data. We’re looking for a Lead Product Designer who is a strategic thinker, problem solver, and researcher. You’ll contribute to the user experience across 1-2 teams, driving discovery, ideation, and concept testing to create impactful, scalable design solutions. This role will primarily focus on building end-to-end agentic solutions for scaled data management. You will own design around our declarative governance strategic pillar, including innovations that help enterprise organizations efficiently identify, document, operationalize and maintain their critical data elements (CDEs) and curate data at scale.

What you’ll do:
Conduct competitive and primary research to become an expert in customer and user needs around data governance & curation.
Develop and evaluate concepts via iterative prototyping, concept testing, and hypothesis-driven design.
Partner with PMs and engineers to synthesize insights and identify opportunities for innovation.
Lead a more junior designer and help execute hands-on design work, from wireframes to polished UI, ensuring a cohesive and thoughtful experience.
Communicate and justify design decisions effectively to business and technical stakeholders.
Contribute to and help evolve our design system to ensure scalable and consistent experiences.
Challenge assumptions, reframe problems, and advocate for users through compelling storytelling and well-reasoned arguments.
Actively participate in design critiques and provide feedback to peers and juniors.
What you’ll need:
7+ years of product design experience in complex, interconnected systems, ideally in B2B or enterprise applications.
A portfolio showcasing selected work or case studies that demonstrate your strengths and impact.
Strong research and discovery skills from either a dedicated UX research background or research-driven design practice.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Deep understanding of user-centered design principles and ability to advocate for users.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate complex concepts into clear, compelling designs.
Excellent verbal and visual communication skills to articulate design rationale and influence stakeholders.
Familiarity with AI-driven design tools and workflows is a plus, as we anticipate AI handling high-fidelity UI execution in the near future.
