🎨 Design at Pennylane
Design sits at the centre of this mission and its purpose is to deliver a accessible, seamless and enjoyable experience for our two main users. Our team of 40+ Product Designers work across different Tracks that are divided into cross-functional squads, each consisting of Engineering, Product and Design. Autonomy, trust and transparency are the key values upon which our culture is built, this is directly reflected in how our designers operate on a day-to-day basis. At Pennylane, designers are expected to actively contribute all the way from defining the problem space, to research and testing.
👪 Team and context
We are seeking a Senior Product Design Manager for the Accounting Track, with a strong strategic and design mindset, who has extensive experience working in complex Product environments.
We are looking for someone with proven experience working directly with C-level executives and executive committees. You have the ability to simplify complex topics, communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, and naturally adapt your presence and influence in high-stakes discussions.
As a Senior Product Design Manager at the track level, you'll directly report to the Accounting Head of Product (Emmanuel Hosanski) and you will have the opportunity to mentor and lead a team of 3 talented Product Design Managers on a daily basis ("manager of managers"). Our organisation is growing fast and you could also take the responsibility of managing few ICs (Product Designers) belonging to newly created tracks, while our organisation stabilizes.
You'll be working closely with the Accounting Head of Product and the Accounting Head of Engineering, as well as collaborating with the other track’s Senior Product Design Managers.
Pennylane is based in Paris but our Design team is remote-friendly. The team meets in Paris a few days every two months.
Your key responsibilities
- Refine and update the Product Strategy at the Accounting track level in close partnership with the Accounting Head of Product and the Accounting Head of Engineering
- Shape, promote and spread the Product Design vision and the Design culture at Pennylane’s level and outside of Pennylane, in close collaboration with the rest of the Senior Design management and the Design Ops Team
- Represent design in executive forums and act as the voice of our users to the board
- Contribute to strategic initiatives and company-wide bets with other leaders
- Lead and mentor a team of 3 Product Design Managers overseeing themselves 15 Product Designers and stay close to the Product & Craft work of your 15 Product Designers at the track level
- Help your team balance speed, quality, and design consistency, always focusing on JBTD and business goals
- Co-animate the Design Committee and Design rituals with the other Design Leaders and own with them hiring, onboarding, performance follow-up, career development processes and all other transversal Design initiatives at company level
- Partner closely with other Design Leaders, cross-functional partners, and HR team to hire, develop and retain design talent in alignment with the growth trajectory of our organisation

We're working on providing those last advantages to our people based outside of France as well, but it can be quite more complex depending on different countries.

What We Do
Pennylane is building the financial OS (Operating System) for European SMEs. A single source of truth for financial and accounting data, used on one side by entrepreneurs to run their business (invoicing and getting paid, paying suppliers and expense management, piloting cash and profitability) and on the other side by their accountant for bookkeeping and tax filings. Saving time to all entrepreneurs and accountants, helping them to make the right decisions and enabling 3rd parties to offer added-value personalized financial services. We’ve launched in France and will expand to other markets in Continental Europe in 2024. Our commercial website is thus in French only but the code is obviously documented in English and our tech team speaks English. We’re product-led, growing fast, backed by strong investors and are hiring software engineers anywhere in Europe to join our experienced remote-first engineering team
