As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money.
For everyone, everywhere.
More about our mission and what we offer.
Job DescriptionYour mission:
Wise has pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Your mission is to shape the Product Compliance and Risk Program, enabling Wise to expand its services to more customers through partnerships with Financial Institutions and Platforms in North America.
This is a first line of defense hands-on role, embedded in the Wise Platform North America Product Squad.
You will be instrumental in growing the Product Risk and Compliance team, owning projects, and making key decisions in the following areas:
Regulatory:
- Stay ahead of financial crime and regulatory compliance trends in North America, with a particular focus on Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS).
- Translate and implement regulatory requirements, ensuring Product and Engineering teams can seamlessly execute them.
- Identify when local regulatory requirements can be met using existing global controls versus when unique requirements need prioritization—optimizing existing controls wherever possible.
Risk and controls:
- Lead audit and exam responses, challenging incorrect assumptions about Wise’s Risk and Controls framework and coordinating evidence collection as needed.
- Define Regulatory and Financial Crime Risk metrics for Wise Platform North America—leveraging global Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) or formulating market-specific ones where necessary.
- Drive product improvements, whether identified by external, internal, or self-identified sources—owning project management and prioritization by deeply understanding Wise Platform products and features.
Reporting and external engagement:
- Monitor and report on Wise Platform's health in North America to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead Regulatory, Financial Crime, and Risk discussions, ensuring clear action plans and follow-ups on identified issues.
- Represent Wise in industry associations and initiatives related to Wise Platform services in North America.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
- Accelerate your hands-on Fintech knowledge at full speed.
- Keep Compliance embedded in the product and engineering development cycle in a fast-moving environment.
- Be empowered to identify regulatory and compliance risks or opportunities—and take the lead in execution.
A bit about you:
You have 6+ years of compliance experience, with hands-on expertise in the U.S. market, particularly in Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and platform partnerships
Your experience spans multiple areas of compliance, from permissibility to financial crime (ideally with exposure to correspondent banking), consumer protection, permissible investments, and more
You have the ability to drive business decisions by convincing both internal and external parties on execution
You are a natural owner who drives and delivers projects from inception to completion and can dive into the details of every problem within your domain
You are an engaging communicator who can effectively present to different audiences (i.e. from Regulators to engineers)
You are analytical, leveraging data to make decisions and challenge assumptions
You have experience in (or a desire to work in) a fast-growing environment and can apply your industry experience to a new paradigm that aligns how Wise works
You are willing to travel, as Wise has offices across multiple global locations
For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.
We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.
Inclusive teams help us live our values and make sure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.
