About the Opportunity

The Senior Procurement Buyer is a strategic procurement leadership role responsible for category and commodity strategy, end-to-end sourcing, complex commercial contracting, supplier performance and resilience across major defence and energy programmes. The role provides senior procurement advice to programmes and bids, drives compliant and cost-effective supply chain outcomes, and supports business growth, mobilisation and capability development.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement & Category Leadership

  • Lead complex, high-value procurement activity across the full lifecycle, including sourcing strategy, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, contract drafting and award.

  • Provide senior procurement and commodity-management advice to programme, bid and capture teams, shaping pricing strategies, supply chain solutions, risk assessments and mobilisation plans.

Commercial, Contracting & Supplier Management

  • Lead contract and framework agreement development and negotiation with Legal and Commercial teams, including terms and conditions, subcontract requirements and flow-down obligations.

  • Optimise supplier bases and approved supplier lists, ensuring suppliers meet required technical, quality, security and regulatory standards.

Risk, Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure procurement and supply chain activities comply with internal governance, audit and assurance requirements and applicable defence and energy regulatory frameworks, including export-control considerations.

  • Maintain awareness of regulatory, geopolitical and commodity-market developments and adjust category and sourcing strategies accordingly.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Engineering, Projects, Quality, Security, Commercial and Legal teams to embed specifications, standards, compliance and delivery requirements within sourcing strategies.

  • Provide direction and oversight to procurement support resources.

Here's What You'll Need

  • MCIPS required; Chartered status preferred.

  • Relevant degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Extensive procurement leadership experience in defence, nuclear, infrastructure, energy or another highly regulated environment.

  • Proven success leading strategic sourcing, category management, high-value procurement and supply chain transformation initiatives.

  • Strong experience managing complex contracts and commercial negotiations; knowledge of contracting models such as NEC and FIDIC is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrable supplier relationship, performance, risk and resilience management capability.

  • Experience supporting major bids, capture activity and programme mobilisation.
