Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Sr. Process Improvement Engineer (Internal Consultant)

Memorial Sloan Kettering's Transformation Management Office (TMO) leads enterprise-wide transformation initiatives that improve operational performance, enhance the patient and employee experience, and support MSK's mission through process improvement, change management, and organizational transformation. We are seeking a Senior Process Improvement Engineer to serve as an internal consultant, leading complex, ambiguous, and high-visibility improvement efforts across the enterprise.

Role Overview
  • Lead enterprise-wide process improvement and transformation initiatives, often with limited precedent, structuring ambiguous problems into clear, actionable plans.

  • Act as a senior internal consultant to clinical, operational, and administrative leadership, shaping strategy and advising on the design of new operating models.

  • Independently facilitate current-state assessments, future-state design sessions, and structured problem-solving efforts for initiatives spanning multiple departments or service lines.

  • Lead and mentor Process Engineers, Project Managers, Change Specialists, and Data Analysts on cross-functional project teams, providing technical guidance and quality oversight.

  • Analyze complex operational data, identify root causes, and develop actionable, enterprise-level recommendations for senior leadership.

  • Design new tools, frameworks, methodologies, and approaches for initiatives that lack an established process or precedent to draw from.

  • Own project workstreams end-to-end: structuring scope, monitoring progress, managing risk, and communicating results to executive stakeholders.

  • Lead change management activities to drive adoption of new processes and ways of working across the organization.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert and coach, building process improvement capability among staff and junior team members.

Key Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of experience in process improvement, operational excellence, transformation, business operations, consulting, or a related field, including experience leading complex initiatives.

  • Demonstrated experience operating as an internal or external consultant, advising senior stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment.

  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of using data to shape strategy and drive executive decision-making.

  • Advanced experience with process mapping, workflow analysis, root cause analysis, and performance measurement across large-scale or enterprise initiatives.

  • Proven ability to structure and define problems in highly ambiguous, undefined situations with no established precedent.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and executive stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to junior team members.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Tableau, Power BI, SQL, Python, or AI-enabled tools is a plus.

  • Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher), or related certification preferred.

Core Skills
  • Advanced process improvement and systems thinking.

  • Consultative problem framing and structured problem-solving.

  • Data analysis and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Ability to influence and drive alignment without direct authority, including at the executive level.

  • Strong written, verbal, and executive presentation skills.

  • Adaptability, sound judgment, and comfort operating with ambiguity.

  • Ability to lead multiple concurrent priorities while mentoring others and driving measurable results.
