Dandy uses cutting-edge tech to empower dentists to give their patients a smile they’re proud of.
The Role

Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $200B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients.

About the Role

At Dandy, we’re building the world’s most advanced digital dental lab — integrating design, manufacturing, and logistics into a seamless system that can deliver beautiful, patient-specific restorations at scale.

We’re looking for a CNC Machining & Automation SME to drive the development of next-generation milling processes for custom dental prosthetics — crowns, bridges, implant components, and more. You’ll own the process end-to-end: from toolpath strategy and workholding to full robotic automation and in-process metrology.

This role sits at the intersection of precision machining, advanced automation, and healthcare manufacturing, and is ideal for someone who wants to build the digital manufacturing infrastructure of the future.

What You’ll Do
  • Own CNC process development for patient-specific dental components — from prototype to scaled production.

  • Design and validate machining workflows for multi-axis mills (3-, 4-, and 5-axis) that achieve micron-level precision, excellent surface finish, and high throughput.

  • Integrate automation systems (robotic loading, part handling, in-line probing, vision inspection) into CNC workflows to achieve 24/7 “lights-out” operation.

  • Optimize toolpaths, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies for complex geometries and challenging materials (zirconia, titanium, PMMA, and wax).

  • Develop and document process standards — tool libraries, fixture designs, validation protocols, and SPC control plans — to ensure reproducibility and compliance.

  • Collaborate with R&D and design teams to improve manufacturability of patient-specific geometries while maintaining clinical fidelity.

  • Lead root cause analysis and yield improvement across machining cells using structured problem-solving and statistical tools.

  • Work cross-functionally with software, automation, and quality teams to build reliable, automated manufacturing lines capable of scaling to tens of thousands of custom parts per day.

  • Scout and qualify new technologies — cutting tools, coolant systems, machine architectures, or in-process metrology systems — to push the limits of digital manufacturing.

  • Work with industrial automation vendors to design milling automation solutions

What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of experience in micron-level precision CNC machining, automation, or process development, ideally within medical devices, dental, or other patient-specific manufacturing domains.

  • Deep technical fluency in multi-axis milling (3-, 4-, and 5-axis) — milling strategy development, toolpath optimization, cutting dynamics, and precision fixturing.

  • Experience developing, tuning, or troubleshooting post-processors or control drivers for G- and M-code generation (e.g., Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens)

  • Proven experience integrating automation or robotics into machining workflows (robot arms, part changers, vision systems, or in-line measurement).

  • Strong understanding of statistical process control (SPC), process validation, and manufacturing scalability.

  • A systems-thinking approach — understanding how design, manufacturing, and inspection fit together in a digital feedback loop.

  • Comfort working in an agile, fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment.

Bonus Points
  • Experience in dental, orthopedic, or other regulated medical device manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with FDA, ISO 13485, or GMP process validation.

  • Background in machining brittle ceramics or titanium alloys.

  • Exposure to closed-loop manufacturing (e.g., vision feedback for tool wear or dimensional control).

  • Experience working with automation integrators or designing robotic cells for high-mix / low-volume production.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

You’ll be helping to define the next generation of digital manufacturing for healthcare — one where every restoration is custom, perfectly fitted, and made in an automated facility that’s as advanced as any in aerospace or semiconductors.

You’ll collaborate daily with experts across materials science, robotics, color science, and software to bring that vision to life — at massive scale.
