We are seeking a Privacy Legal Counsel to join our Legal team at monday.com. This role encompasses responsibilities such as ensuring compliance with data protection laws and regulations, managing privacy policies and procedures for customer and commercial organizations, and enhancing the company's data protection program.

As a Privacy Legal Counsel, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing privacy strategies, policies, and processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is adept at handling multiple priorities, possesses extensive knowledge of complex and evolving laws, demonstrates proficiency in technology, and can effectively translate legal concepts into practical advice.


About The Role:

  • Provide expert legal guidance on data protection and privacy matters, including GDPR and other global, national, and state regulations.
  • Draft and negotiate various legal agreements relating to data privacy, such as data processing agreements, service agreements, and BAAs.
  • Support global commercial teams with data privacy legal inquiries, contract review, and negotiations.
  • Oversee the privacy practice within the legal team and serve as the primary contact for all privacy-related matters. 
  • Lead and enhance the company's privacy compliance programs.
  • Develop and maintain processes and internal policies for data management.
  • Work closely with client-facing teams to communicate and address privacy inquiries, acting as a primary contact.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and compliance audits to identify and improve potential risks.
  • Collaborate with Product and R&D teams to incorporate privacy-by-design principles into products and services.
  • Monitor emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory developments in data protection.
  • Identify and counsel on risks, providing practical guidance and risk mitigation strategies for products, features, and go-to-market activities.
  • Manage and mitigate potential privacy and data security risks, including conducting investigations, notifications, and resolution efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Security team on data security topics and company policies.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the business and provide legal support within the company, deepening understanding of products and goals.
  • Stay updated on legislation and best practices related to privacy and data protection, ensuring ongoing compliance.
  • Proactively take ownership and responsibility for projects, ensuring completion from start to finish.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding and experience in key global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, EU ePrivacy Directive, CCPA, and other relevant laws).
  • Passion for technology and ability to comprehend product, technical, and business aspects.
  • Experience in leading privacy programs in a technology company.
  • Experience in fast-paced technology companies and ability to adapt to dynamic environments and changing priorities within deadlines.
  • Ownership mentality, collaborative nature, and a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent attorney with 5-6 years of relevant legal experience, preferably as an in-house privacy counsel in the technology industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working with global technology companies on agreements and ongoing consultations.
  • Proficiency in drafting, negotiating, and managing privacy terms and agreements.
  • Strong legal and business judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated with outstanding communication, interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Creative and efficient problem-solver.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • CIPP/E and CIPP/US certifications are advantageous.
