Senior Principal Software Engineer – Advanced Technologies

Position Overview:
Insulet’s embedded software Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is chartered to explore new software technologies needed to keep Insulet’s drug delivery system in its position as a leader in insulin management technologies and to expand into other areas of managed drug delivery.  The group explores AI in algorithms, refinements of pump management systems, efficiencies in device firmware updates, and other relevant topics.  Working with Insulet’s Architecture Team, the group develops the software architecture needed to support these functions. The ATG is innovative and disciplined, delivering working proof-of-concept systems and the documentation needed by product development teams to turn those proofs-of-concept into manufacturable devices. 

A Senior Principal Software Engineer on the Advanced Technology Team works with relevant departments within Insulet to understand the software solutions needed to continuously improve Insulet’s embedded software.  With this understanding, the Engineer develops and executes plans for working prototypes of new solutions. 
Responsibilities:

• Work closely with engineering leadership, marketing, clinical and regulatory, PMA and other departments to understand and assess market validation of Insulet's products in the field.

• Develop KPIs by which assessments of the value of new technologies can be measured.

• Use the above information to propose Proof-of-Concept solutions using new software technologies.

• Implement Proof-of-Concept solutions chosen by team management.

• Develop reference requirements for the implementation of chosen new technologies.

• Develop rigorous verification procedures for constructed solutions.

• Lead an engineering team as necessary for the accomplishment of development and documentation goals.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent job experience; 10 years software engineering experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated ability in algorithm development, use of embedded real-time operating systems, or Bluetooth Low Energy technologies is required.

• Demonstrated ability to construct object-oriented designs in C++ or C is required.

• Demonstrated ability to document research and software designs & requirements is required.

• Demonstrated ability to document software architecture is required.

• Demonstrated ability to work with senior cross-functional leadership.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated team leadership abilities is required.

• Ability to develop meaningful verification procedures is required.

• Knowledge of software build systems (gnu make, cmake, etc.) is required.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

• The ability to transfer designs and requirements to others through presentations, mentoring, and coaching is strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of IEC 62304, especially as related to requirements, architecture, design, and verification is strongly preferred.

• The ability to read electrical schematics as required for software board support is preferred.

• Acquaintance with UML modeling systems is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Because Insulet is a world-wide corporation, travel to interface with internal and external development partners and stakeholders will be required.

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $200,700.00 - $301,050.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
