What we are looking for
We are looking for a Senior Principal Data Engineer to play a key role in the transformation of our Data Platform. You will leverage your extensive experience, to provide thought leadership and deep technical expertise to our existing data engineers and data engineering teams.
Already responsible for supporting the business in billion-dollar revenues we need to modernize the platform to ensure it is fit for the future of our B2B Poker product. Using technologies such as Databricks, looker and flink on AWS, you will have the opportunity to drive our journey into the future not just technology but process, practices and ensuring we have a state-of-the-art operational approach with highly efficient build and deployment being integral to success.
You need experience of working with large teams and driving technical strategy and direction with a clear understanding of commercial and business drivers. You need to be passionate about technical communities, allowing others to step forwards and coaching them to learn and become effective technical decision makers. You will be time-served in leading multiple engineers and will understand the fine balance between collaboration and decision making. While not a direct line-management role, you will be accountable for defining and enforcing best-practices, acting as a lead and ensuring we make the best possible decisions in our approach to development and that we as a Tribe are promoting a vibrant culture of innovation and curiosity.
What you will do
Reporting to The Director of Technology, and working with significant autonomy, this is a senior technical leadership role, critical to the success of our teams and the products they build. Senior Principal Engineers works across multiple squads, generally covering several functional layers of our platform and acting as a technical authority in their domain, accountable for us making the right engineering choices and providing visible and proactive technical leadership and helping establish and maintain high standards; working closely with architecture leadership to shape and define the best data solutions.
You will be a best practice champion, understanding the importance of humility, clear vision and direction in helping the data tribe thrive. You will also play a key role in delivery, helping teams ensure they ship on time, with quality; maximising the value we get from technology through the choices we make. This role also has a major stake in our strategic decision making helping direct the organisation towards the right technology goals but with a clear understanding of commercial considerations.
Specifically this role is intended to work across teams, helping ensure we are making best use of our resources and technology and that choices and decisions made in this environment are the best more reasonable that help us meet our bold ambitions in transforming the pokerstars business into a B2B poker product. Youll need to work with local leaders in the area and together define the best path for our technology and our teams.

How you will do it
- Provide overall technical leadership to our Data teams
- Where necessary, support and develop the technical leaders in your area
- Establish meaningful and effective relationships within and outside your area such that our tribe and organisational goals can be achieved
- Establish and maintain a clear strategic vision and direction for our data technology teams
- Be a disciplined custodian of the software design of our products
- Support Data Architects in designing technical solutions
- Advocate and evangelise engineering best practice
