Job Description:

Altera is looking for a Sr. Principal Embedded Software leader to define and drive the development of highly optimized embedded software, firmware, and FPGA solutions. This role requires a deep technical expert with hands-on experience across firmware, RTOS, and general purpose OS such as Linux. The successful candidate will work closely with fellow architects, designers, and engineers to push the boundaries of system performance, efficiency, and reliability.
This position is ideal for an engineering technical leader who thrives in hands-on technical problem solving, brings decades of embedded expertise, and enjoys collaborating across HW, FW and SW organizations to deliver complex system-level solutions.
Responsibilities

  • Own architecture and implementation of embedded software, firmware, and solutions for advanced FPGA based platforms.

  • Lead SW/FW design efforts, ensuring performance, scalability, and efficiency across all system layers.

  • Develop and optimize performance-critical paths in RTOS, kernel, drivers, and low-level runtime environments.

  • Drive BSPs, and early OS bring-up on new platforms.

  • Perform system-level debug, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning across SW, FW and HW boundaries.

  • Define and implement secure software frameworks and software development policies

  • Partner with silicon architects and design teams to evaluate HW architectures, identify bottlenecks, and improve performance.

  • Partner with eco-system partners, define and drive design and implementation of Altera’s FPGA vertical solutions

  • Mentor and guide engineers through technical reviews, while remaining hands-on in solving the most complex problems.

Salary Range 

 

The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.  

$200.2K - $295.0K USD

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with 15+ years of experience or Bachelor’s degree in related discipline with 20+ years of experience in embedded software, firmware, and SoC/FPGA systems development.

  • Deep expertise in RTOS, bare-metal development, Linux kernel, and driver-level programming.

  • Proven record of SW performance modeling, and optimizations.

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++, assembly, and debugging tools.

  • Demonstrated success in SW bring-up, BSP development, and system-level debug.
