Job Title: Senior Principal Cloud Technical Architect & Portfolio Owner

Job Overview: LCG Inc. is seeking a Senior Principal Cloud Technical Architect & Portfolio Owner to lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of cloud-centric solutions across a portfolio of federal IT programs. This role drives modernization initiatives, enterprise architecture standards, platform engineering, and cloud adoption across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).

You will partner in a joint leadership model with the Director of Portfolio Management & IT Programs to guide technical direction, shape cloud roadmaps, and ensure secure, scalable, and cost-optimized solutions. This is a hands-on, senior technical role requiring deep expertise in cloud design, modernization, automation, DevSecOps, and enterprise transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio-Focused Cloud Leadership

  • Serve as the technical authority for cloud solutions within your assigned portfolio, spanning modernization, platform architecture, automation, and application hosting.
  • Define multi-cloud strategy, roadmaps, technical standards, and best practices aligned with agency missions.
  • Architect secure cloud systems that comply with FISMA, FedRAMP, TIC 3.0, and federal security baselines.
  • Guide cloud modernization efforts including containerization, microservices adoption, and infrastructure re-platforming.

Innovation and Strategic Advisory

  • Design and prototype cloud-native architectures integrating data platforms, microservices, APIs, and automation frameworks.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts (POCs) and pilot solutions demonstrating modernization value.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and automated deployment environments.
  • Ensure cloud solutions include observability (logging, monitoring, tracing), performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
  • Troubleshoot production systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

Cross-Enterprise Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

  • Partner with other architects to build reusable enterprise cloud frameworks, IaC templates, and standardized design patterns.
  • Conduct architecture review boards evaluating scalability, security, interoperability, and compliance.
  • Contribute to LCG’s cloud modernization initiatives, including internal playbooks and reference architectures.
  • Share lessons learned to drive consistency and standardization across cloud programs.

Capture, Proposal, and Client Engagement

  • Lead cloud solution development for RFIs/RFPs—including architectures, white papers, cloud costing, and technical volumes.
  • Participate in client orals, representing LCG’s cloud strategy and technical thought leadership.
  • Develop cost and resource estimates for cloud components in proposals and recompetes.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer, documentation, and transition support during program onboarding or handover.

Mentorship, Emblement, and Workforce Development

  • Mentor teams of cloud engineers, developers, and analysts on cloud best practices, DevSecOps, IaC, and modernization strategies.
  • Develop training roadmaps for staff upskilling in cloud modernization, container platforms, and security.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and operational excellence.

Governance, Compliance, and Documentation

  • Implement governance practices for architectural decisioning, cost management, security, and compliance.
  • Produce documentation covering cloud architectures, data flows, security controls, and engineering patterns.
  • Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure all systems adhere to federal mandates and cloud security frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 12+ years in IT, with at least 7+ years in cloud architecture or enterprise modernization roles.
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and scaling cloud solutions in regulated or federal environments.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP (services across compute, storage, networking, identity, security, and integration)
    • Container and orchestration platforms: Kubernetes, ECS/EKS, AKS, GKE
    • DevSecOps & Automation: Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep, CI/CD pipelines, GitOps tools
    • Data & application modernization: cloud-native databases, analytical platforms, serverless architectures, migration frameworks
    • Networking & security: Zero Trust, IAM, encryption, segmentation, logging/monitoring
  • Strong foundation in governance, cost optimization, and secure cloud operations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Cloud Architecture, Cybersecurity, or related discipline.
  • Experience working in federal contracting (HHS, NIH, DoD, etc.).
  • Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect, TOGAF, or similar.
  • Experience developing reusable cloud accelerators, reference architectures, templates, or modernization frameworks.
