The Position

As a Senior Principal Business Architect , you will define and maintain the architectural vision and strategy for the Roche organization, ensuring alignment with business goals and supporting the adoption and implementation of Roche’s Reference Architecture. Acting as the authority and guardian of the Reference Architecture, you will create comprehensive solutions, promote best practices, and ensure architecture components and building blocks are reusable, scalable, and align with established standards. Through collaboration across the organization, you will lead efforts to integrate applications and systems effectively, drive innovation, and uphold the architectural integrity of Roche's customer-facing products. Furthermore, you will play a key role in advancing Roche’s common platform strategy by contributing to its scalability, reliability, interoperability, and alignment with the needs of digital medical products and engineering teams.

Main Tasks and Duties:
  • Act as a guardian of the Architecture roadmap and Reference Architecture for the Roche Ecosystem.

  • Collaborate with Engineers, Product Managers, Sales, Medical teams, Customer Area leads, Lifecycle leads, and other stakeholders to recommend scalable, reliable solutions.

  • Guide the technical solution process to seamlessly integrate different applications and systems using the standard components and building blocks of Roche’s Reference Architecture.

  • Support Development, Solution Architects, and Business teams to effectively deliver strategic outcomes and ensure robust service delivery.

  • Foster the delivery of high-quality maintenance, enhancements, and strategic projects in alignment with the Roche Ecosystem strategy.

  • Define reusable architectural components and ensure alignment with industry regulations, best practices, and Roche standards.

  • Analyze non-functional requirements (e.g., security, scalability, and performance) and implement solutions to address risks and improve systems.

  • Develop advanced architecture blueprints and frameworks that foster innovation, reuse, and value creation across Roche's digital products and services.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Deliver clear, actionable technology strategies and roadmaps aligned with the Roche Ecosystem Strategy and Reference Architecture.

  • Develop and maintain architectural guidelines specific to Roche’s Reference Architecture, supporting engineering and software development excellence.

  • Lead the adoption of Roche Reference Architecture across project teams to ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable products.

  • Identify and address technical gaps in Roche Reference Architecture developing innovative solutions that align with Reference Architecture strategy objectives.

  • Facilitate engagement with stakeholders to ensure Roche Reference Architecture meet business and engineering needs across various digital product teams.

  • Drive Reference Architecture strategy initiatives to enhance Roche's ability to leverage Reference Architecture for digital transformation, scalability, and innovation.

  • Lead architectural decision-making that ensures consistency in technological implementation across customer-facing products.

Key Skills and Experience:
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in business architecture or related roles, with a significant focus on reference architecture and shared platform strategies.

  • Strong understanding of business architecture principles, including the ability to translate business goals into practical platform strategies.

  • Comprehensive experience in platform strategies, technical integration, and designing building block-based architectural solutions.

  • Expertise in software development methodologies, architectural governance, APIs, and shared services models for supporting enterprise platforms.

  • Proven ability to analyze and address non-functional requirements like security, reliability, and scalability in platform solutions.

  • Advanced collaboration, communication, and consulting skills in cross-functional global environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR and HL7, including expertise in compliance-based architectural design.

  • Familiarity with common enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or SAFe.

  • Significant experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Prior leadership in initiatives driving digital and platform modernization for organizations with globally distributed systems.
