The Role

The Senior Portfolio Analyst will report to the Manager of Portfolio Analytics and will work closely with other team members across the Timberland Portfolio Management & Client Services (PMCS) team as well as other stakeholders throughout the organization. The Senior Portfolio Analyst will be responsible for supporting Portfolio Managers in the overall development and implementation of client timberland investment strategies and performance analysis/reporting. This will include financial analysis of existing and hypothetical client portfolios with the dual goal of improving portfolio performance and ensuring the objectives and constraints in client Investment Management Agreements are met.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Lead (alongside the Portfolio Manager) analytics and performance analysis/reporting related to assigned client portfolios

  • Conduct in-depth evaluations of historical and forecasted portfolio performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities

  • Analyze acquisition and disposition opportunities, supporting investment decision-making with robust financial modeling and scenario analysis

  • Collaborate with operations, research, planning, and accounting teams to understand and interpret performance drivers

  • Review and assess property-level budgets and long-term management plans to ensure consistency with portfolio objectives

  • Monitor global timberland market dynamics and macroeconomic trends to inform investment strategy and client communications

  • Draft management discussion and analysis (MD&A) narratives to accompany quarterly and annual financial reports

  • Prepare materials for client portfolio reviews, and participate, with Portfolio Managers, in the presentation of materials in client meetings

  • Respond promptly and professionally to client inquiries, delivering customized analytics and data-driven insights

Support the development and implementation of acquisition funding strategies, including preparation of investment offering materials and financial models

Perform ad hoc analysis and contribute to special projects that support portfolio development and client relationship management

Support continuous improvement initiatives with a focus on analytical processes and reporting capabilities 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Proven understanding of fiduciary responsibility and a strong commitment to SRI/ESG principles

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in investment analysis, portfolio management, or client advisory, ideally within real assets or timberland investments. Additional experience is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field; a graduate degree in one of these disciplines is preferred

  • Progress toward, completion of, or commitment to pursue professional designations such as CFA or CAIA is highly desirable

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on Excel for financial and data analysis, and PowerPoint for creating clear, compelling client presentations.

  • Familiarity with investment reporting, performance measurement, and financial modeling is desirable

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with systems that manage investment data. The ability to improve and enhance these systems is a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively

  • Strong presentation skills and confidence in senior management and client-facing interactions

  • Demonstrated client service orientation; prior experience in an advisory or relationship management role is advantageous

  • Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization and work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently

  • Travel required, approximately 15%, for client meetings, site visits, and team collaboration

Salary range is expected to be between

$91,000.00 USD - $165,000.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
