Job Description:

The Senior Portfolio Analyst is responsible for supporting Portfolio Managers in investment research, analysis, and other duties relating to the management of the firm’s multi-asset class funds and derivative based strategies.
The ideal candidate has a passion for financial markets across the full spectrum of global asset classes, coupled with a keen interest in exploring various investment strategies. Success in this role requires a unique combination of technical skills and a collaborative approach to investment management.

What will you do?

  • Daily rebalancing and trading of asset allocation funds with underlying investments in pooled funds, fixed income instruments, ETFs, and derivatives

  • Identifying and implementing ongoing enhancements to the investment process

  • Performing fundamental and statistical research on macroeconomic themes and developing quantitative models supporting a tactical asset allocation framework

  • Generating top-down investment ideas and driving implementation of the team’s asset allocation views

  • Analyzing the risk / return characteristics of underlying equity, fixed income, and alternative investment strategies

  • Work cross-functionally with other internal teams in the organization to achieve shared objectives (including trading and investment operations) and help support the development of materials for communications with clients.

  • Supporting client service teams though timely reporting of portfolio performance, attribution, and positioning

 

What do you need to succeed?

  • 3–5 years of experience performing research and analysis in support of an investment decision making process

  • Passionate about financial markets, investing, and portfolio management

  • Self-starter who has the ability to work well collaboratively but also independently, has high attention to detail and is effective at communicating solutions to complex problems

  • Expert level experience with MS Excel/VBA. Further programming experience (e.g. Python, MATLAB, R) would be an asset

  • Experience with Bloomberg, Charles River, and/or Blackrock Aladdin

  • Experience in modelling, pricing and/or trading of derivatives would be an asset

  • Proactive contributor with demonstrated accountability and leadership

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline. Advanced degree would be an asset

  • Progress towards the CFA charter

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
