The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) is hiring a Senior Policy Adviser within the Financial Stability team.
This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
This job is available as three years fixed-term.

Purpose of the job:
Our mission is to promote effective and globally consistent supervision of the insurance industry for the benefit and protection of policyholders and to contribute to global financial stability. We are an independent association of more than 200 insurance supervisors covering 97 percent of the world insurance market. We are hosted by the Bank for International Settlements, in Basel, Switzerland.

Principal accountabilities:
- Advancing IAIS projects in assessing key risks and trends and the potential build-up of systemic risk in the insurance sector, as part of the IAIS’ Holistic Framework for the Assessment and Mitigation of systemic risk in the insurance sector (The Holistic Framework).
- Performing financial market analyses, quantitative data analysis and risk assessment, using statistical tools.
- Developing and managing databases, data collection templates, validation and analytical tools.
- Developing and refining indicators or dashboards based on internal or external data.
- Managing external data sets or tools (eg from data providers) and providing recommendations.
- Undertaking analyses of macroprudential and financial stability issues in the global insurance sector.
- Supporting the IAIS’ Macroprudential Committee and its respective Subcommittees, as well as coordinating with other relevant IAIS Committees and Subcommittees.
- Drafting IAIS internal or public reports (such as the Global Insurance Market Report), notably on topics of macroprudential supervision and financial stability in the global insurance sector.
- Assisting with IAIS contributions to the Financial Stability Board (FSB) activities and workstreams.
- Contributing to IAIS relevant stakeholder engagement and communications, meeting planning, preparation, and logistics.
- Preparing reports, presentations, and documents on behalf of the IAIS, as well as briefing notes for IAIS Leadership in external speaking engagements.
- Representing the IAIS in regional and international fora.
- Ensuring that IAIS internal policies and procedures are met.
- Supporting the Secretary General and Senior Management Team performing any other relevant work as assigned or delegated.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Higher education in subjects relevant to financial stability and thorough knowledge of the insurance sector and risk assessment.
- Extensive experience in quantitative data analysis.
- Solid understanding of, and experience in, approaches to statistical analysis.
- Solid understanding of macroprudential surveillance and / or supervision.
- Knowledge of the supervisory and supporting material developed by the IAIS.
- Demonstrated independence, proactivity, diplomacy and the ability to build consensus amongst diverse members and partners.
- Passion, drive and energy to achieve agreed objectives in a structured and transparent manner.
- Proven capacity to work flexibly and effectively in a small diverse team to achieve the successful and timely delivery of project objectives including in time-constrained and/or information constrained circumstances.
- Excellent English language (written and spoken) and ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally with insurance supervisors and representatives from national and other international organisations.
- Dedication to work in Basel, ability to sustain regular travel.
- Skills in at least one of the other two official IAIS languages (French, Spanish) will be a plus.
