Job Overview
As Senior Platform Engineer and the Technical Lead of the FinOps platform, you will help lead the cloud financial management discipline and set of cultural practices that enable collaboration between engineering, finance, and business teams to make data-driven spending decisions.
The FinOps team helps all stakeholders keep a focus on maximizing business value with relation to cloud spending. You will play a critical role in key aspects of the FinOps practice influencing automation and advancement of cost savings tracking, optimization, governance, and awareness of cloud cost management data.
What you'll do
- Partner with FinOps Product and Architect leaders driving the FinOps practice and program
- Empathetically lead teams through engagements in rightsizing, workload management, and the elimination of unused resources to enhance efficiency
- Be the voice of automation and the reduction of toil in helping us build robust FinOps platform solutions
- Support the development and maturity of our FinOps practice, working across a wide influence base including Application Engineering, SRE, Product, and Finance
- Identifies opportunities and serve as an advocate to eliminate waste and automate optimization opportunities across Cloud Solutions
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design cost-effective services, identifying rate reductions and cost avoidance opportunities
- Proposes, reviews, and deploys infrastructure Architecture changes to ensure the most cost effective, resilient, stable operation
- Workload planning that helps teams understand the expected cost of a deployment into major cloud vendors
- Support cloud cost forecasting processes across the business units for proposed/planned efforts driving Cloud cost efficiency into the delivery lifecycle
- Mentor engineers across the wider team in Cloud Governance best practices
- Develop and enhance polices and ensure compliance across all Cloud Service Providers
- Collaborate on the creation of KPIs to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement in cloud financial operations
What we're looking for
- 7+ years of experience in a Platform, Software, or DevOps Engineering or DevOps Advocacy role
- Ego free Customer Obsessed mindset – bringing a unique blend of knowledge of FinOps practices and engineering pragmatism
- Proven track record in cloud cost optimization and governance. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive FinOps principles and practices
- Expertise writing production code with an industry standard programming language using Agile methodologies
- Expertise practicing Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code techniques
- Expertise managing multiple code bases in Git
- Expertise creating Continuous Integration builds and deployment automation, for example CI/CD Pipelines
- Expertise building Cloud Native applications in a major public cloud
- Expertise implementing observability, application monitoring, and log aggregation solutions
- Expertise working with cross functional teams to provide DevOps inspired solutions
- Proficiency in the how modern software development teams plan, build, and deliver software
- Experience in modern change management processes and optimizing bottlenecks
- Expertise in .NET development stack having built, deployed, and supported Cloud native applications
- Experience with various Architecture frameworks across the Pillars of Reliability, Security, Cost Optimization, Operational Excellence, and Performance
Additional skills and experience we're looking for
- University Degree in a computing related field or equivalent experience
- Experience working and managing Azure / AWS Commitment Cost (Reservation, Saving plan, Commitment SKU)
- Expertise with Azure DevOps Repos and Pipelines
- Expertise with provisioning resources in Azure with Terraform
- Expertise with containers and container orchestration, particularly Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Expertise with PowerShell or Python with advanced scripting experience
- Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Developer Associate, and/or Azure Administrator Associate
- FinOps Certified Practitioner
