GAINSCO is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to advance our enterprise platform engineering and DevSecOps capabilities. This senior individual contributor role supports Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, observability, and modern engineering practices across Azure and VMware environments. You will partner with IT Operations, Software Development, and Delivery and QA teams to modernize deployment processes, strengthen platform reliability, and build scalable capabilities that improve the internal developer experience. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with sound judgment, strong documentation practices, and the ability to influence teams through collaboration.

What does a Senior Platform Engineer do at GAINSCO?

  • Lead the design and implementation of Infrastructure as Code across Azure and VMware environments.
  • Modernize Azure DevOps pipelines and strengthen automated deployment processes.
  • Establish and promote CI/CD standards across the technology organization.
  • Design observability, configuration management, and release-management practices.
  • Partner with IT Operations, Software Development, and Delivery and QA teams to improve platform engineering capabilities, pipeline quality, and release readiness.
  • Provide senior technical guidance across platform engineering initiatives.
  • Support production deployments and participate in scheduled after-hours and on-call support.

What is required?

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, plus the required experience outlined below.
  • In lieu of a degree, candidates must have the required experience outlined below plus at least 4 additional years of professional IT experience in infrastructure, software development, DevOps, cloud engineering, or platform engineering.

Certifications:

  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, preferred.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, platform engineering, cloud engineering, or DevOps.
  • 5+ years of Windows Server and IIS architecture and administration experience.
  • 3+ years of production Infrastructure as Code experience 
  • 3+ years of Azure DevOps pipeline experience, including YAML pipeline development and Classic-to-YAML migrations.
  • 3+ years designing CI/CD solutions.
  • 3+ years working with enterprise observability platforms.
  • Strong enterprise experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Experience managing release and deployment pipelines 
  • Advanced PowerShell skills and proficiency with an additional scripting or programming language.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management tools, secrets management tools, pipeline security controls, including SAST and DAST, and cloud cost-optimization practices.

  • Strong judgment in identifying automation opportunities and establishing technical priorities.
  • Ability to develop clear, documented, reusable, and idempotent automation that other engineers can maintain.
  • Deep platform engineering knowledge with the ability to provide technical guidance across infrastructure, cloud, software development, and delivery teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across complex enterprise environments.
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, including the ability to establish trust with experienced Operations and Engineering teams.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a cross-functional team.

Schedule and On-Call Expectations:

  • Standard work week: Monday–Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm CST.
  • Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
  • During assigned on-call periods, the Platform Engineer must be accessible to support critical production or infrastructure issues.

Skills Required
