Senior Platform Engineer – AWS Foundations

Richmond, VA or Lynchburg, VA - A Hybrid schedule of both Remote and In-Office days is required. In office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with working hours targeting our core business hours of 9am-5pm EST.
YOUR ROLE
As a Cloud Platform Engineer - AWS Foundations within the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), you will play a critical role in enabling cloud adoption across the Genworth | CareScout enterprise by designing, implementing, operating, and supporting the foundational AWS services that power secure, scalable, and reliable application delivery within the AWS ecosystem.
This role focuses on engineering and operating AWS platform capabilities including networking, identity integration, governance controls, landing zones, automation, and shared cloud services. You will work closely with Cloud Architects, Security, Platform Engineering, Service Operations, and Application Engineering teams to deliver reusable platform capabilities that accelerate cloud adoption, while maintaining enterprise standards. You will be managing our AWS portfolio with a platform-as-a-product mindset and will be expected to stay up to date on industry wide best practices and CSP specific capabilities that allow us to maximize the business value of the cloud.
This is a team-based, individual contributor role, focused on platform engineering and responsible for building and continuously improving the AWS foundation that enables application teams to deploy, operate, and manage cloud workloads efficiently, securely, consistently, and with self-service as the foundation for delivery.
What you will be doing
• Design, implement, and support foundational AWS platform services across the enterprise
• Build and maintain AWS landing zones, account structures, resource organization standards, and governance guardrails
• Oversee the implementation and operation of enterprise cloud foundations including networking, identity, policy, security controls, governance guardrails, observability, and shared platform services
• Engineer and support AWS networking services including VPCs, Transit Gateway, Route 53, PrivateLink, VPC Endpoints, Direct Connect, DNS, routing, and network segmentation in close partnership with the Cloud Network Engineer
• Implement and maintain AWS identity and access management solutions leveraging IAM, Identity Center (SSO), role-based access controls, and security best practices
• Develop and maintain secure and repeatable Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform and platform automation pipelines
• Partner with Cloud Architecture and Security teams to implement enterprise cloud standards and reference architectures
• Support hybrid cloud and on-premises integration requirements including connectivity, authentication, and service access patterns
• Troubleshoot complex AWS platform issues involving networking, identity, security, infrastructure automation, and service integration
• Contribute to platform observability, monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational readiness capabilities
• Partner with Service Operations teams to conduct root cause analysis and improve platform reliability and supportability
• Assist application and development teams in the efficient, secure, and cost-effective consumption of AWS services
• Create and maintain technical documentation, implementation standards, architecture patterns, and operational runbooks
• Support platform modernization initiatives and evaluate new AWS capabilities, introducing them to our ecosystem rapidly and with baked in governance

• 5–8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or related technology roles
• Strong experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and cloud platform operations
• Experience designing and supporting AWS networking services including VPCs, Transit Gateway, Route 53, Direct Connect, PrivateLink, security groups, and network segmentation
• Experience with AWS identity and security services, including IAM, Identity Center (SSO), SCPs, and governance controls
• Hands-on experience with developing, supporting, and managing services via Terraform, both module driven and resource specific configuration
• Demonstrated effectiveness troubleshooting cloud and on-prem environments, including infrastructure, networking, and platform services
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and Git-based workflows
• Familiarity with container platforms and cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes, EKS, and related ecosystem tooling
• Willingness to support production cloud environments and participate in operational support activities to ensure sustained business value

In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in a bonus incentive plan. Incentive compensation is based on individual and company performance and is not guaranteed.
