GHD is actively seeking highly motivated and skilled Senior Planner to join our team in Auckland.

This role focuses on providing the team with technical leadership, support and tools to offer effective planning services for existing and new clients, including the delivery of projects on time, on budget, to a high-quality standard. 

It also involves developing our people through mentoring and coaching. In addition, the role involves working closely with the Business Group Leader (BGL) and senior team members to foster and grow existing client relationships as well as build new client networks. This includes contributing to and/or leading various bids and proposals.

The role:

  • Provide expert input and supervision on planning projects as Project Manager, Technical Reviewer, or Project Director.
  • Develop credible business relationships with existing and potential clients to ensure required project outcomes are met and client satisfaction is maintained to a high standard. Participate in and/or lead client care visits and champion our client management systems
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, prepare proposals, and engage in industry networking.
  • Oversee planning projects, manage tasks with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure effective financial management.
  • Guide and develop team members, promoting a culture of teamwork, integrity, and respect.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in environmental planning 
  • Full Membership of the NZPI (or working towards this)
  • Technically competent and recognised as such both within GHD and externally
  • A comprehensive understanding of the New Zealand planning system and relevant legislation, as well as local and regional council resource management documents
  • Proven technical planning record in regional council, local council or private sector planning including in leading plan review processes and/or consenting infrastructure projects
  • Project management experience, including financials, budgets, programming
  • Established client relationships and networks
  • Excellent people and networking skills 
  • Well-developed communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Proactive, decisive, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical thinker; self-motivated and energetic
  • Project/Client problem solving focus
