Job Summary
Under the supervision of an attorney and within the parameters of accepted standards of legal ethics, the Senior Paralegal will be responsible for providing advanced paralegal support to attorneys in the Legal Department. The Senior Paralegal may engage in some legal research and independently manages a number of paralegal tasks in their assigned areas This position typically reports to an attorney in the Memorial Hermann Legal Department.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to professionally liaison between corporate counsel, other business units and external contacts in furtherance of the required legal assignments.Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and professional paralegal experience is required.
Licenses/Certifications: Certified Paralegal Credential preferred.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Seven (7) years of paralegal or relevant legal assistant experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively with health professionals at all levels to achieve established goals.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Discretion, sound judgment, tact and when appropriate confidentiality in all communications.
- Must be able to operate independently, as well as on a team, while understanding which issues must be handled by an attorney representing Memorial Hermann.
- Ability to proactively identify and analyze issues, recommend solutions and deliver results.
- Computer proficiency and detail orientation.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Liaison between legal counsel, other business units and external contacts to coordinate and expedite on legal matters to ensure related documents are prepared and executed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist in developing and maintaining best practices for tracking and reporting relevant data and processing legal documents in a timely and accurate manner.
- Independently manage a variety of projects pertaining to routine legal operations, including researching, investigating, drafting, preparing, filing, organizing, and distributing legal documents.
- Attendance at meetings for activities related to primary accountabilities.
- Responsible and discrete handling of extremely sensitive confidential and attorney-client privileged information.
- Responsible for managing a variety of paralegal duties associated with assigned focus area, which could include Transactional, Clinical Operations/ Litigation or Regulatory/ Employment law.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ensure safe care to patients, staff and visitors.
- Adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
