Job Description
This is a Senior Operations Engineer. Responsible for the daily technical and escalations support for the Ethernet Network Reliability Center. Support functions entail technical support duties for Ethernet network isolation, troubleshooting, and internal escalation responsibilities. The role will require the candidate to facilitate outage bridges, perform escalations and work alongside interfacing organizations to resolve network impairments. Be aware of the operational needs of the team to be able to work incoming troubles and phone calls alongside technicians.
The responsibilities of the Sr, Operation Engineer:
- Provides technical support & training for Ethernet Network Operation technicians
- Ensure the Events team are made aware of and update events.
- Troubleshoot and advise on high impact network outage events
- Train Operation technicians on daily work tasks
- Perform escalations to internal teams and upper management teams
- Troubleshoot events
- Review trouble tickets for quality and identify training opportunities for technicians
- Identify & report long duration outages, dispatch delays or chronic events
- Create or update technical documentation
- Work as with Engineer team to ensure Sharepoint is accurate and up to date.
- Serve as an acting “In Charge” in the absence of a NOC manager
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
Strong technical skill level working on complex assignments involving maintenance activities.
- Solid knowledge of network layers 1, 2, and/or 3.
- Troubleshooting experience with Ethernet, ATM, Frame Relay, IP, DSL, and/or Transport.
- Troubleshooting experience with CISCO, Alcatel, Lucent, Adtran, Ciena, Juniper and/or other vendor hardware.
- Troubleshooting experience using a variety of Element Management Systems.
- Ability to interface directly with internal customers over the phone.
- Computer literacy, multi-tasking, problem-solving, strong verbal communications, and customer service soft skills are a must.
- This center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Must be willing to work day, evening, and night shifts; also to work overtime, weekends and holidays as required depending upon employee skills, abilities, and the needs of the business. Hours are based on the needs of the business and are subject to change.
Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- 3+ year troubleshooting experience with Ethernet, ATM, Frame Relay, IP, DSL, and/or Transport.
- Advanced knowledge of network layers 1, 2, and 3. CCNA or CCNP Certification preferred however not a requirement.
- Expert knowledge of Nokia 7750, Cisco and Ciena Ethernet platforms.
- Ability to support/train NOC technicians in any facet of their role
