Job Summary: As a Senior Ontologist, you will be responsible for leading and defining ontologies that support our data integration and knowledge representation efforts. This role will require you to collaborate with various teams to ensure our ontology frameworks align with project objectives and stakeholder needs. You will be responsible for owning the top level ontologies and helping teams extend these ontologies to support our platform, application and Agentforce implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ontology Design and Implementation: Develop logical, semantically rich, and extensible ontologies for specific projects, ensuring they facilitate effective data organization and retrieval. For example, creating an ontology for a new product line that integrates seamlessly with existing databases.Create new schemas to support new Agentforce features.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, data analysts, and subject matter experts to gather requirements and validate ontology structures. Participate in workshops to capture domain knowledge and refine concepts.

  • Semantic Web Technologies: Utilize OWL, RDF, and other semantic technologies to build and maintain ontological frameworks. For instance, implementing a semantic layer for a customer relationship management system.

  • Data Integration Support: Assist in integrating ontologies into existing systems, ensuring they enhance data interoperability. This may include developing mappings between ontologies and legacy data structures.

  • Ontology Lifecycle Management and Governance: Lead and collaborate with architects, developers, data modeling teams and other stakeholders on management of ontology lifecycle.

  • Documentation and Training: Provide clear documentation for ontological structures and offer training sessions to team members on how to utilize the ontologies effectively.

  • Project Management: Manage your time effectively to meet project deadlines and deliverables, ensuring a high standard of work.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Library Science, Information Science, Linguistics, or a related field with a focus on ontology development or knowledge representation.

  • Experience: 7+ years relevant experience in ontology development. Proven track record of working on projects with tight deadlines.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in semantic web technologies (OWL, RDF/s,), query languages (SPARQL), familiarity with editing tools like Protégé, Semaphore, Pool Party, or TopBraid and validation/reasoning standards (SHACL, SPIN)

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to develop effective ontology structures that meet project requirements. Detail-oriented problem solver who is able to work in fast-changing environment and manage ambiguity

  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively engage and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to quickly grasp complex processes and explain them clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AI and machine learning applications in relation to ontologies.

  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies.

  • Familiarity with industry domain language (e.g. financial services, health care, revenue lifecycle).

  • Familiarity with data science or data engineering.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $143,300 to $197,000.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
