The Senior Network Engineer will support the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on the agency's network operations project. TDCJ is one of the largest Texas government agencies, with over 30,000 staff members located in approximately 100 offices across the State of Texas. The agency manages a diverse IT infrastructure including mainframe, server, web, and cloud-based application systems accessed over a complex local and wide area network. The Senior Network Engineer will support network operation, security, and maintenance, and will collaborate with other agency departments and external organizations to provide a secure and effective network solution. The role requires availability to support a system that must maintain near 100% uptime on a 24x7 basis.
Responsibilities:
- Support the agency's network operations, security, and maintenance functions.
- Collaborate with other agency departments and external organizations to provide secure and effective network solutions.
- Respond to remote site circuit outages and resolve related connectivity issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve router, switch, and firewall issues.
- Configure and monitor core to remote network equipment.
- Monitor circuits daily to identify anomalies that may cause outages.
- Provide network support for all programs used across TDCJ.
- Plan, design, and implement local and wide area networks.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and problem resolution for network infrastructure.
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation as scheduled.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience supporting large enterprise network operations.
- 8 years of experience implementing, upgrading, and maintaining products from the CISCO suite of tools.
- 8 years of experience planning, designing, and implementing local and wide area networks.
- 8 years of experience monitoring network infrastructure.
- 8 years of experience performing ongoing maintenance and problem resolution.
- Experience using SecureCRT, Cisco Command Line Interface, and OSI.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to take on projects and work independently while meeting all deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CCNA certification.
- CCDA certification.
- CCNP certification.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a CJIS background check.
- Candidate must work exclusively on this dedicated position and cannot hold any other job.
- New contractors may be required to work on-site at 815 11th St, Huntsville, TX 77340 for the first 2 to 4 weeks before transitioning to remote work.
- In-person meetings may occasionally be required in Austin, TX and/or Huntsville, TX, with advance notice provided.
- Travel expenses are not covered or reimbursed by the agency.
