About This Opportunity  

Join UQ’s Information Technology Services department as a Senior Network Engineer and play a pivotal role in designing, delivering and supporting the University's communications network that underpins teaching, learning, research and engagement across UQ. Working within a collaborative and high-performing team, you will contribute to enterprise-scale network infrastructure, lead technical initiatives, and help drive secure, reliable and innovative technology services across a complex and diverse environment. You will be empowered to shape solutions, influence outcomes, and work alongside talented professionals who are creating change together.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement and maintain enterprise network infrastructure to support the University's operational, teaching and research objectives.

  • Lead the technical design and delivery of significant network and infrastructure projects, including the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies.

  • Provide expert technical advice and consultancy services to stakeholders, ensuring high-quality and customer-focused outcomes.

  • Promote cyber security best practice and contribute to the ongoing reliability, resilience and performance of UQ's network environment.

About You   

You are an experienced network engineering professional who combines strong technical capability with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach. You thrive in complex environments, enjoy solving challenging problems, and are passionate about delivering secure, reliable and innovative technology services that create value for stakeholders.

  • A degree in electrical, electronic or computer engineering, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, deploying and supporting contemporary network infrastructure.

  • Cisco CCNA certification or extensive hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of networking technologies such as network security, BGP, MPLS, IP Telephony, wireless networking or disaster recovery.  

  • Proven ability to investigate, evaluate and implement new technologies and technical solutions.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.

  • A strong customer service ethos and a methodical, organised approach to problem solving.

  • The ability to work independently, contribute to team success, and lead technical activities or project outcomes when required.
