As a Sr. Network Engineer, you will apply broad technical expertise across database, network, compute, storage, and virtualisation platforms to support critical enterprise transformation projects across Australia and New Zealand. If you are a hands-on technologist, eager to automate virtual appliances, resolve complex network incidents, and evolve systems towards Infrastructure as Code, this position offers an impactful platform for career growth. Working across infrastructure teams, business, and security teams; and collaborating closely with Technical Architecture; you will play a pivotal role in evolving team workflows towards cloud-native operations, security compliance, and automated infrastructure management.
What you will do
Champion the Network team's operational evolution towards Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, cloud-native operations, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Identify opportunities to implement automated solutions for virtualised appliances, including firewalls and load balancers, and work collaboratively with the global Network Automation team to improve our global network delivery.
Serve as a senior technical escalation point for major incident resolution, deep technical troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Collaborate with Technical Architecture to integrate infrastructure requirements into enterprise project roadmaps.
Support regional data centre decommissioning projects (including New Zealand sites) and hybrid cloud migrations.
Evaluate existing infrastructure against reliability, availability, and performance objectives to drive continuous improvement.
What Experience You Need
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
7+ years of experience in infrastructure architecture or senior systems engineering spanning cloud and on-premises environments.
3+ years of practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
5+ years of practical experience with network, both on-premise and in the cloud.
Demonstrated experience implementing automation for virtual appliances (firewalls, load balancers, or virtual routers).
Hands-on experience performing deep technical troubleshooting and major incident resolution.
What Could Set You Apart
Relevant cloud architecture certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Architect).
Experience transitioning infrastructure operational workflows to SRE or DevOps frameworks.
Scripting and programming capability in Python, Go, or Bash for operational automation.
A drive to continuously improve an overall network, to include operational improvements, continuous iterative improvements in network topology or standards, to collaborate with other network or security teams.
Willingness to work with application teams to foster improved relationships.
Previous operational experience working in a regulated industry.
