About Mytra:

We’re creating an entirely new way to solve the most ubiquitous problem in industry - moving and storing material. We’re applying robotics and distributed software to create a new class of product for this $1T market. We’re focused on the supply chain industry first. The industry is in a massive bind with the continued growth of e-commerce, sharp rise in costs, and supply chain disruptions. What has been a “sleepy” industry for decades is now at the epicenter of sustaining the global economy.

About the role:

Our robotics software team is hiring a Senior Motor Control Software Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of the embedded firmware that drives our motors and actuators. Your work will directly impact robot performance, reliability, and fault resilience.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain embedded firmware for brushless DC (BLDC) motor control and motion execution
  • Evaluate and drive architecture for future motor controllers
  • Develop and tune control algorithms (PID or similar) for precise velocity and position control
  • Bring up and validate firmware on prototype hardware
  • Debug and analyze control performance using real data and measurement tools
  • Ensure observability, fault detection, and monitoring in all control firmware
  • Collaborate across teams to align motor, driver, and control system design
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical, Computer, or Robotics Engineering
  • Strong proficiency in C or C++ for real-time embedded systems
  • Solid understanding of BLDC motor control fundamentals
  • Experience evaluating or modifying motor controls and tuning control loops
  • Hands-on debugging experience with hardware tools (oscilloscope, probes, logging, etc.)
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills
  • Familiarity with FOC, sensorless, or observer-based control techniques
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing or control system validation
  • Experience designing observability and monitoring of motor controller failure modes
  • Exposure to rare-earth-free or alternative motor topologies (e.g. SRM)

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Your work directly impacts robot performance, reliability, and cost
  • Solve multidisciplinary problems at the intersection of software, hardware, and controls
  • High ownership and autonomy in a lean, fast-moving team
  • Opportunity to mentor others and shape the foundation of Mytra’s motion stack

A Final Note:

You’re encouraged to apply even if you can’t take on every example project in its totality. We

work closely and collaboratively at Mytra - No one takes on projects alone. We seek people who

are eager to work together, learn new things, and bring unique perspectives.

Benefits Include:

  • Competitive compensation + equity grants at a high growth company backed by top tier VCs
  • Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), commuter benefits, and pet insurance
  • Lively modern combined office and lab space where we rapidly iterate through design, build and test phases
  • Lunch and snacks provided in the office; we eat and share stories together at the “long” table
  • Flexible hours and flexible PTO

Pay Notice:

  • Compensation for this position will be negotiated based on the candidate's experience level and location. The posted salary band is applicable only to the San Francisco Bay Area and is subject to change.
