Job Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, execution, and implementation of capital equipment and facility projects across Carlisle operating sites. This role provides advanced engineering and project management expertise to support manufacturing operations, improve process efficiency, and ensure successful deployment of capital investments.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer owns all phases of projects—from concept through commissioning and closeout—while serving as a technical leader and key partner to Operations, Maintenance, EH&S, and plant leadership. This position also plays a critical role in troubleshooting complex systems, driving continuous improvement, and mentoring less experienced engineers.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, specification, and procurement of manufacturing equipment and facility systems aligned with business and operational requirements
  • Manage capital projects from initiation through completion, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and documentation
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors, vendors, and internal resources during project execution and installation activities
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for existing process equipment and systems
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to plant engineering, maintenance, and operations teams
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, EH&S, and leadership to identify and implement process improvements
  • Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and installation plans
  • Evaluate equipment proposals, vendor capabilities, and system performance to ensure optimal solutions
  • Support commissioning, startup, and validation of new equipment and systems
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to drive innovation and efficiency
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities to support project planning, installation, commissioning, and training
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of capital project management methodologies
  • Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and temperature control systems
  • Understanding of piping systems, instrumentation, and process control (including PID loops)
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and National Electric Code (NEC) standards
  • Knowledge of plant utilities, low-voltage power distribution, and automation/data communication systems (e.g., OPC protocols)
  • Understanding of CAD and modeling tools (Autodesk or similar)

Skills:

  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects
  • Ability to interpret and develop mechanical designs, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems
  • Experience developing RFQs, equipment specifications, and technical documentation
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to evaluate technical proposals and make data-driven decisions
  • Proficiency with engineering software and standard business applications

Abilities:

  • Ability to lead projects independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple sites and functions
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Education and Experience:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
    • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing environment
    • Minimum of 3+ years of experience managing capital projects or equivalent project leadership experience
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in multi-site manufacturing environments
    • Experience with large-scale capital equipment installations and process optimization
    • Professional Engineering (PE) license or project management certification (PMP)

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of office and manufacturing environments
  • Travel required (approximately 40–60%), including support for installations, commissioning, and vendor visits
  • Fast-paced environment requiring management of multiple concurrent projects
  • Occasional extended hours or weekend work to support project execution and plant operations

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs and ladders in industrial environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate equipment and processes in plant settings
  • Manual dexterity and coordination for working with tools and equipment
  • Ability to sit for extended periods for computer-based work
