The role, at a glance:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides significant expertise on complex electro-mechanical
engineering design and acts as a professional resource for core New Product
Development/Introduction (NPD/I) team. Designs, develops, tests, and qualifies a variety of
mechanical solutions for audio-visual products.
How you'll contribute:

  • Review customer requirements and create measurable technical specifications that can be achieved through design process

  • Act as NPD/I core team lead for all mechanical-related design and test matters from product creation to launch where time-to-market and product excellence is imperative

  • Work with stage and gate process to develop new products that fulfill customer requirements and meet technical specifications

  • Be responsible for creating prototypes for testing, overseeing testing (either internal or at outside test laboratories), analyzing test results, writing test reports (or editing the test reports of outside test laboratories), and qualifying mechanical sub-systems and overall product (e.g., structural, thermal, materials, industrial design, compliance) suitable for product launch

  • Prepare and lead design reviews and ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Quality (DFQ) principles objectives are achieved

  • Generate cost optimized trade-offs to achieve cost-effective product design solution capable of meeting product launch targets

  • Support manufacturing operations as needed for quality and manufacturing related issues at new product launch and with existing legacy products

  • Lead SolidWorks PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) organization and VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) or Python script development for continuous efficiency improvement including Adobe Illustrator distribution scripts

  • Serve as SolidWorks PDM Pro administrator

  • As needed, provide technical support to resolve sustaining engineering needs

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance

  • Regular, consistent, and punctual in-person attendance required

A successful candidate should have:

  • Education: Undergraduate college degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations; advanced degree, such as Masters degree in Mechanical engineering, is desirable

  • Experience: Minimum of eight years of mechanical engineering design experience with manufactured products

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing complex engineering solutions; electro-mechanical product design experience including PCB’s, wire harness and cable interconnect, passive and active heat transfer, loudspeakers, structural electronics chassis enclosures is highly desirable

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling required; SolidWorks required including product configuration management; Adobe Illustrator required

  • Product development and release experience required

  • Experience with analytical tools like FEA, CFD, DOE, Six Sigma (DMAIC) highly desirable

  • Experience with material selection (plastics, metals, adhesives) and manufacturing processes

  • Prototype building experience with common wood and metal shop tools, 3D printing, creating new test apparatus and procedures is very useful

  • Ability to contribute to the improvement of strategic engineering processes

  • Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge

  • Able to solve complex problems; make decisions based on the analysis of multiple information sources

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
