About Grafton Sciences
We’re building AI systems with general physical ability — the capacity to experiment, engineer, or manufacture anything. We believe achieving this is a key step towards building superintelligence. With deep technical roots and real-world progress at scale (e.g., a $42M NIH project), we’re pushing the frontier of physical AI. Joining us means inventing from first principles, owning real systems end-to-end, and helping build a capability the world has never had before.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design the mechanical backbone of advanced robotic and automation systems. You’ll own precision assemblies, mechanisms, tooling, fixtures, and end-effectors that enable autonomous manipulation, fabrication, and experimental workflows. This role spans concept development, CAD, DFM, rapid prototyping, and close collaboration across robotics, electrical, and manufacturing teams. You should be motivated by building real hardware quickly and making it work reliably in production-like environments.
Responsibilities
• Design, prototype, and iterate mechanical assemblies, fixtures, and robotic tooling with high precision and manufacturability.
• Develop mechanisms, joints, frames, and end-effectors that support complex manipulation and automated workflows.
• Work closely with fabrication, machining, and suppliers to ensure high-quality parts and fast turnaround.
• Collaborate with robotics, controls, electrical, and automation engineers to integrate full electromechanical systems.
Qualifications
• Strong experience designing mechanical systems end-to-end: CAD modeling, mechanisms, tolerancing, materials, and DFM.
• Demonstrated ability to take designs from concept to prototype to reliable operation in robotics, automation, or hardware environments.
• Comfort working hands-on with fabrication, machining, rapid prototyping, and testing.
• Ability to operate in fast-moving, interdisciplinary settings and own mechanical deliverables with high rigor and speed.
Above all, we look for candidates who can demonstrate world-class excellence.
Compensation
We offer competitive salary, meaningful equity, and benefits.

What We Do
Grafton Sciences is pioneering AI systems with general physical ability, the capacity to experiment, engineer, or manufacture anything. By pairing this physical substrate with advanced learning architectures, our goal is to build superintelligence. Backed by leading partners, including ARPA-H, we are redefining how the physical world is queried at scale.
