We are seeking a driven and innovative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of Rondo’s proprietary heat battery systems. In this role, you’ll design critical systems, components, and tooling that will enable the large-scale deployment of RHBs across global industrial processes.
Your work will directly shape the systems that can replace fossil-fired boilers worldwide and contribute to one of the most significant industrial transformations in history.
Join our team and together we can reduce world CO₂ emissions by 10% in 10 years, and by 15% in 15 years!
What You’ll Do
- Translate product and subsystem requirements into technical specifications, conceptual designs, and detailed mechanical solutions.
- Execute engineering analyses (thermal, mechanical, fluid/mass flow, structural) using 1D and 3D tools.
- Conduct prototyping, testing, data analysis, and risk assessments (e.g., DFMEA-style evaluations).
- Design components and assemblies for manufacturability, scalability, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and field performance.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation using CAD/PLM (SolidWorks preferred).
- Develop and improve processes for high-volume manufacturing; establish quality and inspection criteria in partnership with operations.
- Support development of tooling, fixtures, and equipment required for manufacturing, integration, and testing.
- Collaborate across engineering, product, and operations teams to drive rapid iteration and resolve technical issues.
- Define technical requirements for vendors and assist with supplier qualification.
- Contribute to cost models and cost-reduction initiatives through material, process, and design optimization.
- Participate in design reviews and present engineering rationale, data, and options.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience across relevant industries; high-temperature or energy systems experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Proven ability to design and deliver hardware through full development cycles—from requirements to production release.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, failure analysis, and iterative design.
- Ability to perform engineering analyses (1D or 3D) across heat transfer, mass flow, structural mechanics, or related areas.
- Fluency with SolidWorks and CAD best practices; familiarity with GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
- Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and a track record of innovation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
