Entegris is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic team responsible for particle analyzer and concentration monitor products in Bloomington, MN as part of the Scientific Instrument Business Unit within Entegris’ Advanced Purity Solutions Division. This segment develops technologies that support design and development of the most advanced semiconductor applications in the world.   

 

This Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the development and technical advancement of Particle Monitoring and Concentration Monitoring equipment, supporting product designs from concept through commercialization. The Mechanical Engineer should be familiar with stage-gate development and New Product Introduction at low and high volume. Expected to work with Domestic and International company resources and/or vendors to move new concepts from prototype to production.  

What You'll Do: 

  • Serve as the mechanical engineering subject matter expert for designing, specifying, maintaining, modifying, implementing and improving products, instruments, components, or systems for industrial or commercial purposesThe Mechanical Engineer will own modeling, fabrication, manufacturing processes, prototyping, and documentation necessary to fabricate and assemble.   

  • Directs technical discussions and analysis of technical evidence to make decisions and demonstrate function and reliability 

  • Manage and sustain particle sizing and/or concentration products through entire lifecycle, including changes necessary for business continuity 

  • Help conceptualize, design, build, and qualify various lab equipment, fixtures and tooling; support execution of design verification and qualification tests on complex materials, sub-assemblies, and products 

  • Drive new or derivative products to market, will hold accountability toward data management, BOM creation, routing creation, costing 

  • Prepare design and procurement specifications for mechanical and optical materials/assemblies through strategically approved supply channels 

  • Supports customer requests for documentation, test data 

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives with manufacturing, including but not limited to resolving quality notifications, corrective actions, supplier capability, quality assurance, process optimization 

  • Utilizes and excels in the latest mechanical engineering software design tools 

  • Lead or co-lead projects related to technology development and new product introduction, from concept through release to low or high-volume manufacturingResponsibilities include leading phase gate projects, design and concept reviews, prototyping, documentation creation, regulatory certification, design verification test, product validation and qualification, tracking of resources, scheduling, assessing risk and mitigating, estimate costs, DFMEA’s 

  • Conceptualize, design and develop new, derivative and existing product offerings to ensure performance and advancement of technology 

  • Characterize and test products to ensure specified requirements are met; oversee release to manufacturing activity by leading design verification testing, validation/qualification efforts, build and test of prototype systems 

  • Provide documentation support such as creating/maintaining drawings, SOPs, test procedures, test data, routings 

  • Write technical reports and compiling data as evidence to support qualification of product or change to product, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or requirements 

  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability, including assessing risk and managing using creative mitigation strategies 

  • Vendor and supplier coordination by managing relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components and services 

  • Collaborate cross functionally with engineering, new product introduction, product management, customers to maintain alignment and ensure project success 

  • Assist in performing root cause analysis on quality issues on new and existing products; troubleshooting responsibility to recognize design vs functional vs assembly issues 

  • Exhibits sound judgement and decision making, driven with data, based on schedule and cost impact 

  • Mentor junior engineers, interns, and co-op roles 

What You'll Need: 

  • Leadership: A proven track record of leading or supporting new product launches, design improvements and technologies into manufacturing with successful market launchesExcellent written & verbal communication skills along with efficient project management skillsAbility to work effectively & respectfully in a team-based & multi-national global engineering environmentWillingness and ability to be self-motivated and work well in a fast-paced design environment. 

  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering, and 7+ years of directly related experience is required, advanced degree preferred, licensed as a professional engineer is a plusKnowledge in semiconductor hardware, metrology and other equipment desired. 

  • Experience: Ability to design, fabricate, and qualify product and equipment used in the manufacture and testing of products, hands-on experience using various machine shop tools, processes and equipment assumedKnowledge of materials and material properties is extremely useful in the roleThe Senior Mechanical Engineer will integrate all facets of design including electrical and cabling with the electrical functionAdditional expectations: experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), thermal and fluid dynamics, kinematics and dynamics, dimensioning and tolerancing, and failure modes associated with mechanical design and material properties.   

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge or experience in engineering design practices, solid modeling (proficient in design tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, ProE), and creating manufacturing drawings for use in producing prototype, low volume, and high volume components with various machining, molding processesFamiliarity with various material properties and processes for plating, polishing, anodizing, finishing, inspectingExperience with simulation tools such as ANSYS, MATLAB, Solidworks, MiniTab, Autodesk desiredExperience with SAP PLM desired. 

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and troubleshoot complex systems 

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly 

  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders 

  • Accountability: Detail oriented and ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines, self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
